Love's Light Blue

It was more than enough, perfection at its greatest and then it seemed to vanish in an instant… a heart torn into two, and tears seemed to pour from her eyes like there was no tomorrow. But in the back of her mind, she knew there would be, she knew that there was a future for her, and she would have to live them without his shining smile, and helping hand.
Kelly had walked almost three miles from home, just to see that spot in the sky, that they both had stared into with hope and wishes that it would stay that way forever. Wishes that hadn’t come true, wishes she’d regretted from the moment the tragic news had been broken to her. It had been two weeks almost, and she had not left her room until that day, where she had woken early, and walked, blank-faced to the field. The grass waved around her, tickling the skin of her cheeks as she sat, embracing her knees. The sun beat down on her brightly, but she refused to squint, she took every beam in, hoping she would be blinded, and the pain would take over her on-going grief. She clasped her hands together tightly, hurt winced through her from bruised knuckles, from the many punches she had made to her already battered wall.
She continued to stare, not a blink in hours. The area was silent; apart from the subtle swoosh of the breeze. And yet in her mind she heard the laughs and chattering that had once filled the air between them, and yet now it seemed like no amount of sound could fill the gap. She attempted to swallow the lump in her throat, that had formed and dried her mouth, but as she did so tears filled her eyes, she could no longer hold them back, it was all too much…
She began to whimper, trying to bury her aching head in the sleeves of her jumper. And as she looked up, she began to realise how alone she was, he was no longer there to wipe away her tears, and at that thought an anger filled her. she grabbed a rock off the ground, and stood, throwing it off the side of the cliff.
‘Why aren’t you here?’ she screamed.
And caved in, falling to her hands and knees on the floor, barely able to breathe. She whimpered louder, letting out slight screams of pain. Her stomach roared painfully inside her, she had hardly eaten for weeks. She felt weak, fragile, as she rolled over and fell back into the grass, her eyes closing as if to say it’s all over. But she couldn’t sleep; she refused to, as she wiped the dried tears from her tender cheeks, her hands in fists tight with anger, her heart throbbed too much to sleep for even a minute.
‘Kelly, come on,’ her sister whispered, reaching her side as she lay limp on the floor.
Kelly turned away, turning on the brittle mud, looking at the two shapes they had left in the exact shapes they slept in.
‘You can’t do this, come on, just come home, mum and dad are worried, don’t make me force you…’
She could hardly move, as another tear streamed down her skin. And as she glanced from the corner of her eye, Bret, her sister’s boyfriend appeared. He kneeled beside her and gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
‘Hey, come on please…’ he whispered, a desperate yet sympathetic expression on his tanned face.
Kelly swallowed, but still couldn’t move, it seemed she was being kept there by a force she could hardly control. She turned to the sun, staring at it deeply, hoping the rest of the world would disappear and she could be left…
‘Get off!’ she screamed, as her sister, Sarah and Bret lifted her off the floor.
‘I can’t sis, I’m sorry,’ she said, carrying her towards the car.
‘Just fuck off, I hate you! You don’t understand… you never will…’ she said, tears forming again, as she twisted and struggled with her remains of energy, in their locked arms.
Reaching the car, they pushed her in, and clicked the locks on, knowing she wanted to escape. Bret ran around and started the engine, peering in the mirror to see Kelly, turned to the window, sitting limply, unable to fight anymore. Sarah sat beside him, staring out the window, glum with guilt, but knowing deeply it was the right thing to do…
