Phoebe was named after the talented and equally beautiful Phoebe Sync. Phoebe Sync had written the songs for (except for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"
everyone of her three albums, had starred in twenty-three full length motion pictures (she was in the remake of Mean Girls), had been a cast member on the hit TV sitcom, My Family Hates Me, and the star of her own reality TV show, In Sync with Phoebe Sync. 2The nation sized stadium trapping her surged with cheers. Phoebe spat at the machine in front of her. The machine had been programmed to kill her. Phoebe knew exactly what to do. She switched the music player implanted in her ear on, and switched it to "Rhapsody in Blue". She laughed to herself, not exactly fighting music, I guess. Phoebe re-used one of her old tricks on the robot. She loudly gasped, said, "Oh no. Oh no, you killed me. It's all over." Phoebe fell backward as the crowd let out a gasp. Dust clouded her petit body and stained her white t-shirt. The robot turned off, because its task was accomplished.3
Phoebe jumped up - and with the accompianment of a saxophone - she shot the robot right in the target on it's "torso". A metallic clang followed as it fell to the dusty ground. When the dust parted Phoebe was shown as victor. Her chest pounded as she waved to the crowd.4
She walked triumphantly off to the exit on the right. She would be met by thousands of redneck fans as usual beging for autographs. Phoebe didn't care. She wanted to go home and see her father, play an ancient video game (Zelda was her favorite, because they looked similiar), and sleep on the porch under the moon. She loved the thrill of the battle, but she loved Father more. 5
She stared at the archway ahead of her. It was dark and awfully quiet. Phoebe stopped in confusion. The sweat, which had been beginning to stop, rolled down her forehead. She stepped forward into the engulfing darkness. A bright smile lit the hallway to the showers. Along with curly blonde hair gently nudging the shoulders which were covered in fur of a beautiful girl standing in front of her were the only light in the passage.6
"Hi, I'm - well, you know who," said the beautiful woman.7
"Are you a f-fan?" asked Phoebe. Phoebe knew this couldn't be true. But, for some reason, she was trembling more than she ever had before.8
"Good joke, dear. Anyway, I just wanted to come see you. And I wanted to tell you, no hard feelings. I'll be there. Giving you all of my support," said the beautiful woman. 9
Phoebe had just noticed the two body guards paralleling the beautiful woman, when the woman turned and started to leave.10
"Wait!" yelled Phoebe, "who are you?"11
Her voice was lost in a blanket of uproar from the crowd gushing in the hallway. Phoebe quickly escaped before they noticed her.12
She rushed into the washroom and washed the sweat off of her face. This wasn't her. She had been intimidated by that, that woman. Cool, calm, and collected, Phoebe told herself. She let her hair down and washed the tears out of her eyes.13
That night when Phoebe sat with her father on the front porch of their forest cottage, Phoebe was worried. "Father?"14
Her Father sat across from her. He was reading a red hard-covered book. His face was wrinkled and freckled. He still had long white hair, and wore thick rimmed glasses. He looked at her irritably (he did not like to be disturbed in his reading).15
"What?" he said.16
"What's coming tomorrow? Is there something special at the arena?" she asked.17
"What do you mean?"18
"Well, it's just - it's just stupid," she said embarrassed.19
"Phoebe, you didn't meet anybody did you?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.20
"No, I - I did meet some woman. It was dark. but she had brilliant teeth. She told me that she'd be there tomorrow - to watch. She also said, 'no hard feeling?' about something," said Phoebe.21
"Wait, where did you meet this girl, now?" he asked. He had lowered his book and looked very concerned.22
"In the exit hall, why?" she asked.23
Her Father stood up quickly. "Phoebe, Phoebe, did she have bodyguards? Did she resemble you?" he asked. 24
"She had bodyguards, but she and I had different hair, so, no, we didn't," she said.25
