Chapter 271

“This is amazing.” Elizabeth gasped as she looked upon the forest by the palace. Yerix smiled as he rested his elbows on the rail on the balcony.
“It is beautiful is it not?” he whispered as he brushed a stray hair from her face. She turned and looked at him. “Would you like to go there? We can take a visit there tomorrow.” he asked.
“Yes, I would love to go. What should I bring? I hope we are walking.” she responded.
“Yes we will walk. I don’t want to trample the plants with a carriage. You should wear comfortable clothes and boots. If you want you can bring some test tubes. I know that you would want to study the plant life.” he said with a grin.
“That would be nice.” she sighed. “I guess I should be going to bed so I’m rested for tomorrow.” she suggested as she turned away from the ledge. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” she bade.
She walked out of the room a slight smile glued to her face. She went to her room and as she closed her door Udrea knocked on Yerix’s.
“Yes?” he asked as he opened it.
“May I come in?” she requested as she stood stiff at his doorway.
“Yes, of course.” he answered as he moved out of her way. “What do you need?” he asked worry fleeting across his face
“We have gained intelligence about a possible assassination attempt on you. I suggest that you stay in the palace until we can find the person planning the attack.” Udrea informed Yerix.
“I will not hide like a coward I will continue with my plans, but I will bring extra guards. There are always people who want me dead. You know how difficult it is to kill someone these days.” he told her.
“This person is believed to have a new weapon. It is designed to stop the heart and cut the spine. It is also believed that it can decompose organs. Basically you would drop dead and there wouldn’t be a cut on you.” she said.
“I am guessing it is one of those radiation guns we’ve been researching?” he asked as he ran his hand through his black hair.
“Yes, it is someone on the inside.” she told him sadly.
“Then maybe it would be better for me to take a trip outside of the castle.” he suggested as he walked to the window. He leaned against the wall the stress of leadership emanating from his heavy body. He looked as if walking was becoming hard.
“I need a break. I do not think I can take this much longer.” he admitted.
“Fine, but I will organize the guards that will accompany you.” she demanded as she set her face stiff. “I care about you I do not want harm to come your way.”
“Alright. I am planning to visit the forest with Elizabeth. She would like to admire the plant life.” he said as he sat down and smiled at her. “She is nice, very smart.” he divulged to Udrea.
“She does seem nice but she is not of our own. She is a mere human. You must understand that.” she scolded him as she walked for the door, “I will see you tomorrow. You must get rest.”
“Goodnight.” he sighed.
