Once upon a time there lived two birds, a brother and a sister. Their names were Daniel and Elizabeth, or Lizzy for short. Lizzy was nine, and Daniel was eleven.
One day, Daniel went for a fly through the woods. Lizzy did anything Big Brother would do, so naturally, she went with him. Daniel wanted to see how much he could fool his sister into disobeying.
"Oh, dear Lizzy, won't you come with me to the ocean to catch some fish for supper?"
"Daniel! Mother and Father said it's too dangerous. I won't!"
"Whatever you say. I don't care what THEY say. It's my life, not theirs. I can do what I want." And before Lizzy could protest, he was gone.
"No! Daniel!" she called after him. But it was too late. He was gone. She flew after him, and right as she got to the ocean, Daniel swooped down, determined to catch a fish to show-off for his sister. But instead, a dolphin jumped out of the water, and swallowed the bird in one bite. Elizabeth wept and wept, sad for her brother's death. She didn't know how to tell her parents. She managed to though, and learned a lesson: Obedience is the very best way. She never went back to the ocean again.1
