The Chronicles of James Bodwin, The Lure of Flesh & Blood (Chapter II)

The Chronicles of James Bodwin, The Lure of Flesh & Blood (Chapter II) 1

James woke up with a headache; he was lying on the floor, it was cold and damped. The smell of that place was awful. It was not a nightmare... what he saw and experienced was real. He sat for several minutes trying to put his thoughts together, feeling frighten and confused. 2

Who was that lady in the black and red outfit? What were those creatures and what they wanted with him? He also thought of his beloved Elizabeth and what they had done to her as he began to cry. 3

He then decided to explore that place and search for a way out. He wiped the tears with the back of his hand and stood up. The place was dark; no windows, a thick wooden door with a small opening which had a steel grate in it. He tried to look out but it was dark outside as well. He was not able to tell if it was day or night and how long he had been there. The last thing he remembered was seeing the fire in the farm house and the feel of something heavy hitting his head. He had awakened in that hell hole. 4

"Help!" he screamed out of the grated opening at the door. His voice echoed down the corridors of that place. 5

"Somebody..." he yelled again "please help me..." he whispered those last words. 6

James felt helpless... he put his back against the wall and sliding down, he sat on the floor sobbing. Hours passed by and he finally fell asleep again. 7

James woke up as he heard the door open. He rubbed his eyes and saw a strong figure standing tall over him. He sat down and retreated to one of the corners. The lights of the torches were coming from outside. He was only able see the figure but not his face. 8

"Get up..." he commanded James. 9

This man husky voice resounded strongly in the cell's walls. James stood up and tried to speak but the man grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him out the door. 10

"Now walk!" he said demandingly. 11

James was lead by a hurl of man that looked more like an army of four. They were all dressed in black… big guys with strong arms that could defeat any great gladiator. James tried to see their faces but was unable to. 12

He was led up a few flights of stairs into first to what it looked like a living room and then up another flight of stairs to a well decorated bedroom. As James walked in the bedroom, he looked out of the semi opened window which had steel grates. He was able to see that it was dark outside; he most had slept all day. 13

James was very nervous; the men that led him to that bedroom disappeared closing the door behind them. 14

"Now what?" he said softly but irritated. 15

He looked at his reflection in the mirror... his eyes were swollen and his clothes were filthy. James sighed at his sight of himself and turned around... as he spun around he saw her standing there so close to him, he could smell her scent. He stumbled back against the wall and onto the window hitting his head against it. He let out a cry of pain... he never heard her come inside the room. 16

"Hello Mr. Bodwin..." she said in a very amused. "I am sure you might be wondering why I kept you alive..." she continued as she paced back and forth in the room. "...the reason I kept you alive it is because I want you for my own entertainment." she said smiling back at him, mocking him. 17

She came close to him and smelled him. "I can smell fear and anger, darling." she said in a serious tone. 18

"Who are you?" James inquired angrily. 19

"I am Countess Elizabethra Bathory." she said triumphantly and taking pride of her title and name. 20

James looked at her in disbelief once more, his eyes widened as he thought what he read about her was not real, yet there she was Elizabethra Bathory, standing before his very own eyes, the legend herself. He felt short of breath as she came closer to him. His body trembled as she caressed his face. 21

"What will happen to me now, Countess?" He questioned her before she opened the door. 22

"What will happen to you? Nothing that I will not allow, darling..." she said laughing evilly "...now clean yourself up and get dress..." she commanded pointing at the clothes hanging on the dresser. 23

She turned around but this time to give him an advice, "...do not try to escape, if you do not want to be the dogs’ banquet tonight." She said closing the door behind her. 24

James glanced out of the glass and saw the dogs pacing outside the window. "Sure if I could fit through the grates, I would... I rather be the dog's food than yours." 25

Since James had no other option than to do what he was told. He cleaned himself up and changed his clothes, not because she wanted him to but because his clothes were filthy and he needed a bath. 26

As he was fixing to sit on the couch to rest for a while the door opened again. James came up to his feet and this time he was able to see the man's face. He had a ruthless and vicious look upon his face; malevolence is what James saw in his eyes. 27

"Countess Bathory requires your presence in her chambers." the man said coldly. 28

James walked by the man standing at the door. “Her servant…” James thought. 29

They walked down the hallway to Countess Bathory’s alcove. Her servant opened the door and James entered the room. It was lighted with red and black candles. James looked around the room. She was sitting in the corner... away from the light. 30

"Right here Mr. Bodwin..." she said smiling, "...or should I call you James?" she continue in playful tone. 31

James was getting fed up with her sickening game. 32

"What do you want from me?" James asked demandingly. 33

"Good inquiry my dear James..." she paused. "I want to possess your soul." she spoke again coldly. 34

James heart pumped faster as he felt breathless... He did not know what to say and listened to her. 35

"Now my dear James... you have two choices, either you give in willingly and become my slave or you will die tonight... just like your beloved Elizabeth" she said cold-heartedly. "Only this time I will burn you alive... it is up to you how you want to do this..." "...besides you have nothing to go on in your miserable mortal life..." she said sarcastically, "...your beloved Elizabeth is dead and you have been accused of murder." 36

James heard his beloved Elizabeth's name mentioned and dropped to his knees. His mind could not fully process all that she was saying to him, neither what it was happening to him but he did not want to die like that nor spend the rest of his life in jail for the murder of Elizabeth, a murder he did not committed... besides if he was dead or in jail he would not be able to take vengeance in the death of his beloved one. However he did not think the Countess would let him off that easy. James knew she would give him the most horrible of death. He knew that woman was evil and would make him suffer in his bereavement if he refuses to be her slave. 37

"My sweet James, I am offering you a life for eternity by my side. I am offering you the world." She said alluringly... but he had already made up his mind. 38

James unbuttoned the collar of his shirt exposing his neck and closing his eyes... "Take me out of this measly misery... go on and do it." 39

Countess Bathory took him by the neck and lifting him up to his feet pushed him onto the bed. She positioned herself on top of him and ran her tongue along his jaw line. 40

She whispered to him, "Good slave... I will see you tomorrow." 41

She sank her fangs on his neck and as he felt the pain he tried to get away but it was to late... she overpowered him. The Countess suckled the blood from his neck as the images of Elizabeth came before his eyes. He saw her beautiful face and tears streamed from his eyes. 42

A few seconds later, he felt no pain, he felt the life fainting out of him… and under his last breath... from his mortal lips he pronounced in sadness the last of his words, "I will always love you, Elizabeth." 43

As his world turned black he could have sworn he heard Elizabeth’s sweet voice calling his name... 44
