Wait until Tomorrow (chpt 4)

As I got off the bus Gabriella and her brothers stood waiting for me in a huddle so I walked over to them. I haven’t seen Michael and Hector for about a month because I was in the hospital, so I gave them both a hug and asked them how things were going. I looked up at Justin who shared similar features with his two brothers and smiled. The three shared beautiful eyes, but were all different heights and skin complexions. Michael and Justin were both a smooth caramel complexion and stretched about 5”7, whereas Hector was a smooth dark complexion and about 5”9. They were extremely tall to me because I am only 5”2.1

Gabriella and I stood talking to her brothers as she introduced me to Justin. Then Keisha (one of our friends) came off the bus. You could tell by the way that she stared that she was interested in one of Gabriella’s brothers. “ Who is this?” Keisha smiled, inferring that she was talking about Justin. “ Another handsome brother? That is ridiculous. I couldn’t live under the same roof with four sexy brothers and a gorgeous father.”2

Gabriella’s brothers blushed, but Gabriella and I shook our head in dissatisfaction. She was not trying to be friendly when she said that. She was just being the flirt that she is. She was trying to find a way to get closer to them, as she does with every boy. Keisha is fairly attractive, but her sweet personality brought out her true beauty. Her straight jet-black hair falls softly, sitting gently on top of her shoulders. Her eyes are bright and filled with excitement. I used to try to help her understand that she doesn’t have to be a flirt to be liked, but it seems that she would rather be ridiculed just because she prefers hanging around boys.3

As we started walking into the school, everyone that surrounded us was trying to figure out the classes that Justin took. When Gabriella and I finally got the schedule, I realized that the majority of Justin’s classes were the same ones that I had. Hector and I both offered to show Justin where his classes were so I smiled and sarcastically said,  “Hector, it’s okay. I could show him where his first period class is. I don’t want you going out of your way when I have to be in that area.”4

“When did you start being so nice?” Hector asked.5

“It’s not that I am being nice Hector, it’s that we both have the same first period class. You know what, it doesn’t really matter to me. If you wanna go out of your way, go on.” I responded. 6

Gabriella and I walked off. As we turned the first corner before entering the building, a voice shouted from behind. “Lashay! Hold up a sec. Wait for me!”7

When I turned around, I was surprised to see that it was Justin. As he ran towards Gabriella and I, his eyes glistened from the gleam of the sun. Butterflies filled within my stomach. “ Yall could at least be nice and wait.” Justin smiled at me. I was still a little aggravated because of Hector, so I put my hands on my hip and rudely questioned Justin, “What you want?”8

Justin smiled and licked his lips, not acknowledging the fact that I was being rude. He then leaned in closer to me and whispered in my ear, “You!” All of a sudden my body became hot and I became weak. I could feel the redness from blushing starting to build up on my face. I couldn’t help but smile, but I had to keep my composure. “No, Justin. What do you really want?” I said sarcastically.9

“ Well, I want you to show me to class. I mean, I’m going to be seeing my brothers’ everyday. It would be better if you could show me so we could both benefit out of it.” He said.10

I laughed, “ How will we both benefit out of this?”11

He smiled, “ You will be doing something nice for me and I will be getting to know more about you.”12

Gabriella smiled at the way Justin was talking to me. She only wants the best for me, and I for her. We all continued walking. As we got to the end of one hall Gabriella, Hector, and Michael turned down another to go to their classes. I decided to engage in a friendly conversation with Justin.  I asked him a little about himself; like his age, where he was born, etc.  He then asked me the same.  After a while of noticing all of the stares that he was receiving from girls as he walked down the hallway, I thought I had to say something about it.13

I turned to Justin and said, “ You know a lot of these girls gonna try to talk to you, right?” 14

“ Why you figure that?” He replied.15

“Because look at you, Justin.”16

“Yeah, look at me. I have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth like every person that just passed us by, Lashay.  I am not any different than any of these kids.”17

“ I know ain’t any different, but that ain’t what I mean.”18

“ Well, what do you mean?”19

“ I mean, there is something different about you. Something that a lot of these kids don’t have.”20

“ Something like?”21

The words that I was about to say got caught in my throat, and at just that second, the bell rung and we both approached the classroom. I smiled, “ This is it!” I said, completely ignoring what he just asked. “The teacher is going to tell you what to do. And by the way, Justin, call me Shay.” 22
