Obviously, the glossary will be placed at the far back of the book. However, I am adding it here now for the benefit of my beta-readers. This is all job lingo. It will be saved in the memories of this diary for later refrence, and it will probably be added to. I'm not thinking straight right now, so I am sure I missed something. While skimming entries for the book, I may come across words for the glossary, which will be added then. I will let you know when words are added. And if you happen to recall something I have mentioned while working in the job, please remind me of the word so I can add it. Thanks!1
Glossary2
ATM: I know that's obvious, but some of you may know them as Mac machines. That's how I knew them until I came down here.3
Armored Truck: These include box vans, vans, “the big truck,” and B-Bodies4
B-Body: A large truck from the second company I worked for, which is different than the ones from the first company because of sheer size and weight, as well as the addition of air breaks.5
Cash Swap: this is when we remove the cash canisters from the bottom of the machine. We take them onto the truck, remove residual cash, and completely refill the canisters.6
Residual Cash: what's left in the machine when we do the cash swaps, and it's also removed. This also covers money that didn't make it out and was redirected to a separate canister for whatever reason.7
Deposit Pulls: removing the deposit envelopes from ATMs, logging them, and returning them to the bank so they are added to your account8
Deposit Pullers: part timers (usually) who do deposit pulls. Some areas are still starving for them, and those areas are covered by the armored trucks and full time workers9
E-cash: emergency cash. E-cash calls are last minute calls from banks when the ATMs run low before a scheduled cash swap. This usually happens late in the afternoon and the first trucks back go back out to fill those. These also occur on the weekends and holidays, forcing us to be on call in team rotations.10
Team: a driver and a messenger, sometimes a guard, but we haven't had this yet11
Driver: drives the truck, is not allowed out unless for pit stops. Someone must always be behind the wheel of the truck with the engine running. 12
Messenger: gets out of the truck and performs all necessary duties. They are also sometimes referred to as technicians or, in the case of the second company, crew leaders.13
Route: all the ATMs and duties dealt with on a given day without returning to the base. E-cash is never part of a route, it can be an addition to one, though.14
Coal Sack: the tote bag carried by the messenger.15
Deposits: money from the customer. This can be deposits in ATMs or what is actually handed over by customers.16
