“Hey guys don’t be so harsh” Eddie tries to weakly defend himself but fails miserably. “You always talk to me as if I’m special or something when I’m really not” he says as he swings a smack at Zac and hits the wall instead. Point proven.1

I look over at him sympathetically “Awww did that hurt poor ickle Eddie poops?” 2

Paris takes over and starts patting him on the back. “There there lil Eddie whizzer, it’s ok, we won’t abandon you when the doctors come after you.”3

Eddie frowns at us and turns his face towards the wall. We suddenly hear a muffled sound from his backside “No don’t like you taking piddle out of me. No like. Eddie is offended. Humph!”4

Zac coughs and sputters and starts to laugh. “Haha Eddie is that your backside talking or your mouth talking shit? No seriously mate, we didn’t mean it, you know it. C’mon… come have a hug.”5

I look at Zac and slap him hard on the arm. “D’ya mind?” I growl at him.6

“Oh babe you know I’m only joking” Zac cheesily grins at me and holds me round the waist. He thinks he can get around me this way. And it usually works. He’s a right sweet talker. So cheesy. Needs a slap quite often to keep him in place. I’m still kind though. Yeah real kind. Love him to pieces. He knows it, I know it, everyone else knows it. I can’t stay angry at him for long.7

“Hun,” he kisses me softly “I love you”8

Paris and Eddie start looking around and admiring the pretty view of the library, opposite of where we sit. 9

“Hey guys!” Zac caught their attention, “What about us?”10

Paris looks at me, completely ignoring Zac’s shrewd remark. “Hey Ro, what do you think we should do about Annie. You know if she doesn’t turn up soon or something we better do something about it. I mean, we haven’t heard from her for days, what we gonna do about it?”11

Eddie looks thoughtful, which is unusual for him, and says “I don’t reckon we should do anything about it. She’s just ill! Seriously guys, why you so worried, she’ll come to school soon, she’s just missing coursework deadlines or something. Just because you haven’t heard from her doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong.”12

Zac turns towards Eddie. “Nah she usually is calling Paris and annoying her for half an hour! No look I’m only joking but Paris and Ro are getting a bit annoyed about it. If only we could find out about something. Just to put our minds at rest. Just to make sure.”13

“Thanks baby,” I look at Zac. “I think it would benefit us anyhow, what’s our plan or action?”14

“Well…” Eddie says, “I reckon us four should get together at my house and we’ll decide what to do then. I mean, we’ll sleep over – that will make it fun, and we’ll talk about it for a long time. Guys, it’s best if we sort it out our way, after all, we’re the one’s that are worried about it.”15

I look over at Fido and Jamey who seem oblivious to our conversation as they are deeply engrossed in talking about the newest movie at the cinema.16

“OK then” I say, “We’ll gather at Eddie’s during the easter holidays and then we’ll spend the next day discussing what we’re going to do. Even if it isn’t serious, we’ll have some fun. Hey we better let Jamey, Fido and George know as well. George seems a little concerned about Annie so we’ll let them know about what we’re going to do and if they want to input some ideas later, after we’ve discussed it then that sounds good. It’s better we don’t get too many people involved or it will get too crowded and we won’t decide anything!”17

Zac smiles sweetly at me, “Yeah, you’re right babe. The least amount, the better in my opinion. So let’s set a date and it’s a deal.”18

“OK then, how about Sunday the 2nd into Monday the 3rd. Come to my house on Sunday and we’ll sleep over – eat food and discuss what to do the next day.” Eddie grins19

“Sounds like a plan” I say.20

So the date was set and the place was decided. Now all they had to do was think up some good ideas to discuss. On Monday the 3rd, their first detective mission would take place.21
