The Halloween Mystery Part Two

CHAPTER 2 - 5 YEARS LATER1

Saturday, October 31, 1998 was a weird day for me. It was a day that I 2

will never forget. It was the day that I was reunited with the horrible...3

It was well passed 5 years since Chase and I had seen the old decrepit house and that old 4

courteous man who drove us home. However, this Halloween we decided to stop going trick-5

or-treating because we felt we were too old. Therefore, this Halloween would have to be 6

different. Chase and I would have to think of something new to do this year.7

Wednesday, October 28, 19988

"Hey Adam, what are we gonna do this Halloween, dude there is nothing 9

to do!" Chase Complained.10

"Well how about we go to Trixie Cassidy's party? I heard it would rock!" Replied Jason.11

"Yea that would be pretty cool, but only if your mom lets you go. You 12

know how she got when you and Jessica Pile were going out!"13

"Ha-ha! Yea, but I think she's past that overprotective stage that all parents go 14

through. She has to understand that I’m not still her little chi-chi anymore."15

"Chi-Chi??? Ha-ha!"16

"Yea that used to be my nickname."17

"God, I hope she lets you go though. Well I gotta go, call me later Chi-18

Chi (giggles)."19

"Bye!"20

2 HOURS LATER21

"Hey mom. Mom!!" Adam shouted.22

"I'm in the den!" His mother replied.23

"Come Here!" Adam shouted.24

"No! You come here if you need something!" She quickly 25

answered.26

"Mom, there is this really cool party Saturday at Trixie Cassidy's house, and I'm 27

sure it will be really nice. Can I go?"28

"Oh Adam, I’m not sure. Will her parents be there?" She asked in 29

a concerned tone.30

"Of course mom, I would never be caught dead at an unsupervised house!"31

Now of course I lied, but as a teenager with an over protective mom, it 32

was all I could do to get out!33

"Well I guess but be home at 9:00 pm and...34

"Mom, 9:00?" Adam quickly interrupted.35

"Yes 9:00 and have fun, but no hanky panky, and no strolling 36

around to other houses! And I mean it!"37

"But, but, alright." Adam sighs.38

So it was all set for me, go to Trixie's house and then home. So simple, nothing to it, or so I 39

thought!40

THURSDAY MORNING41

Now I never really liked mornings. I was not what you would call a morning person and the 42

worst thing I ever heard was the sound of my moms alarm waking me up at 6:00 a.m. every 43

morning. I’m convinced now, that after a year of that alarm it has managed to burn a few of 44

my brain cells!45

"Adam, time to get up for school, and no stalling this time, you 46

can't get another tardy!" His mother yelled.47

"Oka--ay." Adam moaned with morning grunts.48

"Adam, I need you to pick me up some things from the market 49

after school today! I need a cookie cutter, 2 pumpkins, 2 gallons of milk, and a bag of sugar. I 50

will leave the money on the table." 51

"Okay, mom." Adam yawned.52

So I was all set for school on my brand new moped. It was ruby red with a beautiful trim of 53

white around the edges. It could almost reach 60 mph, and it was the first vehicle that I could 54

call my own. The keys meant freedom. As I left, I remembered to grab mom's grocery list and 55

my schoolbooks and homework but as I drifted down the road I kept feeling as if I had forgot 56

something. I thought about everything I had, and then remembered!57

"Oh No!" Adam yelled.58

I had remembered the list but forgot the money, and now I would be late for school. As I got to 59

school, I walked down the hallway and was nervous. I wasn't sure if it was because I was at 60

school and that school smell was making me nauseous or if it was because of the eerie silence 61

in the hallway as I approached my class.62

"Detention! Adam this is your 5th tardy this semester and you have already been absent 7 63

times this semester!" Mr. Abnoxshus exclaimed!64

Oh no, now I would be late home and my mom would wonder why, so I would quickly have to 65

think of a lie to get out of this one. Ummm.... lets see, I was driving home and my moped ran 66

out of gas, so I had to push it all the way home then...wait but where did I get the gas money 67

from, the groceries? It would never work. But something would have to! So I served my 68

detention, and went to the grocery as quick as possible. As I headed home I happened to pass 69

that old mysterious house that brought me such a spook in the past years, and something was 70

strange. As I passed it there was a very dense fog around the empty lot, but everywhere else 71

was sunny and clear, so I began to wonder. As soon as I got home I quickly blew off a sign of 72

relief. No sign of mom! But just as I walked up to the door I noticed her car was in the garage, 73

and my fear grew taller then Shaquille O' Neal.74

"Oh hey mom, how's it going?" Adam asked.75

"I don’t know, you tell me. Your teacher called. He told me what 76

happened. Adam I told you this morning not too be late, and this is the straw that broke the 77

camels back! I have had enough!78

And then she said it!79

"YOU’RE GROUNDED! No party this week." His mother yelled 80

angrily.81

And that was it. Isn't it amazing how you always seem to get in trouble at the worst possible 82

time and then you end up missing something you really want. For me it's like when you’re 83

watching a bad-guy, good-guy movie and you know even though the bad guy is winning the 84

good guy will always find a way to win. No matter how good something seems, I always find a 85

way to blow it!86

Friday, October 30th @ School87

"Hey Chase, I got bad news man." Adam said.88

"I take it the detention, didn't go well with your mom?" Chase Replied.89

"Yea, and now I can't go to the party. So you'll have to go by yourself."90

"Dang, bad stuff like this always happens to you. You must just have a 91

gift for getting into trouble. Oh well, maybe I will call you at sometime and let you know how 92

things are going. Ya know you could just sneak out."93

"And risk getting into more trouble?!? Adam shouted.94

"Alright suit yourself man. See ya Saturday." Chase said confidently.95

"Later Chase."96

The next four classes went pretty smoothly. I didn't get into any trouble, but I still hadn't 97

planned on going to the party.98

Fifth Period99

"Hello Adam. I sure hope you can come to my party 100

Saturday!" Trixie Cassidy remarked.101

"Hi Trixie! Yea sure I'll be there." Adam answered.102

"Okay great. Make sure you save a dance for me. Bye." 103

Trixie said.104

Now it couldn't possibly get any worse. Accidentally in a daze of amazement I just told the 105

most popular girl in school that I would go to her party. But I couldn't because I was 106

grounded! So as the day ended I began to think more about Chase’s remark.107

Saturday -Halloween-108

So it was all set. I would wait for my mom to leave tonight at 7:30 p.m. because she was 109

having dinner out with my dad. I would then sneak out and go over to Trixie's house. There 110

was only one thing in my way though. What was Trixie's address? I tried to call Chase's house 111

but nobody answered. So I would have to go look in the phone book.112

"Mom, where's our phone book?" Adam questioned.113

"I don't know. I don't think we have it anymore!"114

"Okay!" Adam groaned.115

So that was it. No phone book no party, and just as I was walking back to my room someone 116

was knocking on the door. But when I got there I didn’t see anyone. But just as I was closing 117

the door out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a blue truck. The same blue truck that I rode 118

home in the Halloween 5 years ago. Could it be I wondered? No, there had to be at least 1,000 119

other trucks like that in our county.120

So I searched through the phone book, and found her parents name, but the address was sort 121

of smudged. It looked like, 387 Brickwood Lane.122

It was now 8:00 and my parents had left. It was time for me to leave also. So I snuck out.123

I hopped on my moped and was off. As I rode down towards Brickwood Lane it grew apparent 124

that the sky began to get hazy and very foggy. Just as I pulled up to the house I noticed one 125

very strange thing. It was that same old creepy house that I ran into 5 years ago. I was being 126

re-united with the same house that brought me so much fear 5 years ago. Only it really looked 127

like there was a party going on. The lights were on and as I came closer, I could hear the 128

music better. It was old music, sounded like music from the 1800's. Very rustic which I found 129

strange. And I know my old music. My grandma looks like she must be like 150 years old, 130

and she calls this kind of music, "Music of the New Generation!"131

As I came up on that eerie porch the music go louder and louder. I knocked and everything 132

came to a thundering silence!133

"Hello Trixie? Is anyone there?" Adam questioned.134

Nobody answered so I knocked one last time and still no answer so I began to walk away. I 135

got almost all the way to my moped when the door quickly flew open with an ear piercing 136

creaking noise. I began to stare at the house as intense as I could. But all I could make out 137

was two beady little eyes that reflected with a cat-like effect.138

"Hello Trixie, is that you? Trixie, I think I’m gonna go back home okay?"139

As I got on my moped, I began to notice something else. It looked as if the eyes were moving 140

closer and closer to me. I began to get very nervous. They kept creeping closer and closer. I 141

tried to start my moped but it was stalling, and that’s when I noticed. I was out of gas. I 142

quickly jumped off my moped and ran towards the house. I saw the gleaming eyes continue 143

through the darkness after me. I opened the door and entered the house, and as I entered I 144

noticed the eyes weren't outside anymore. But the house was dark and in my quick adrenalin 145

rush to escape from the gleaming eyes I entered the house much farther then I expected. So I 146

had to look for some kind of light. The darkness consumed me and it was so silent I could 147

hear my sweat beads hit the floor, and they sounded like hail slamming into metal shingles. As 148

I scrounged around I managed to find a light switch. I turned and on and.........149

Nothing! I didn't see anything. Not even any furniture. It looked like someone had completely 150

cleaned the place out. As I walked towards the door though I suddenly got a chill down my 151

back. I quickly jerked around to see nothing, and just as I opened the door out of the corner of 152

my eye I saw someone. I looked over there. It was Chase.153

"Chase is that you? Boy, am I glad to see you. Dude, there is some weird stuff 154

going on here."155

As I walked towards Chase, I noticed something strange. It looked like he was sick. He was 156

very pale and his skin looked dry. So I continued toward him and he began walking away. As I 157

followed him he started walking faster, so I also walked faster. Soon he began almost running, 158

and I found this strange. Suddenly he turned the corner and was gone. I looked out the window 159

and I saw it. The grave of Charles Cantier, born in the 1800's.160

Could it be, I wondered? So I walked out the door and onto the old rotted deck. There was a 161

distinct odor filling the air, like the smell of Sulfur or a rusty anchor. I was curious so I walked 162

toward the tombstone and to my surprise it now read. Chase Cantier, born 1803, died 1816. 163

And next to the tombstone was another that read Alan Cantier, born 1775, died 1816. I stared 164

hard into the deep forest behind the grave-site. The forest that I knew very well. I quickly 165

glanced at my watch just too realize that it was already almost 10:00 P.m. so I knew I would 166

have to leave. As I walked back towards my moped I noticed something. There was a jug of 167

gasoline sitting by my bike. But how did it get there? I filled up my bike and as soon as I left, 168

there I saw him. The old man that drove me home on Halloween 5 years ago. Is it possible? 169

As I got home I almost expected that my mother would be sitting on the porch waiting for me 170

with the grounding of a lifetime, and as I rounded the curve and pulled into my driveway 171

somebody was at my house, but it wasn't my mother at all. It was Chase.172

"Chase, what are you doing here? I would have swore I already saw you!" Adam 173

said.174

"Well maybe you did. Adam I’m pretty sure I saw you at the party." 175

Chase said.176

"Nope I wasn't there. I spent my Halloween at that old creepy house. You 177

remember the house."178

"Yes all too well!"179

"Hey Chase, can I ask you 2 questions?"180

"Sure." Chase said.181

"What's your dad’s name?"182

"Alan."183

"Now I know I have asked you before but I can't exactly remember. What's your 184

last name?" Adam nervously asked.185
