Whitney and Penguin had finished their bath and went to eat some lunch. After lunch they went back outside and walked by the barn. Whitney saw paint spilled on the ground and a trail of paint led to the far side of the barn so she and penguin followed the trail.1
"Oh my" Whitney cried. "Penguin someone got paint all over the barn". She saw a trail of paint leading to the creek. "Lets go find out who did this Penguin". Off they went. Whitney was upset that someone messed up her Daddy's barn and was going to find out who did this terrible thing.2
They followed the paint down near the little bridge when Whitney and Penguin stopped. She knew she should never go near the bridge because her big brother told her a mean troll lived under the bridge. 3
"Mr. Troll did you make a mess at our barn?", she shouted. No answer so she threw a rock at the bridge. "You better clean that mess up this instant Mr. Troll!", said Whitney sounding like her mommy when she did something bad. Still no answer so she threw some more rocks at the bridge. suddenly she heard a very scary growl come from the bridge.4
A voice came from under the bridge "Little Whitney go home and leave me alone" said the voice. "No, I will not go home until you come out and go clean the mess you made Mr. Troll" said Whitney and she threw another rock towards the bridge. "You will clean it now or I will get my Daddy down here" she said very stubbornly.5
"No one will believe I made that mess""only little kids believe in trolls" said the voice. "Oh my Penguin, he is right""Daddy will think we made that mess" said Whitney. Whitney sat on the ground and started to cry. "I am going to get in so much trouble because of that mean old troll" she sobbed. Penguin laid in her lap as she cried. Suddenly Whitney set Penguin on the ground and got up. She was so mad at the troll she grabbed some more rocks and began throwing them under the bridge. Suddenly there was a loud growl. "You asked for it little girl" said the troll. A big ugly troll crawled out from under the bridge. He was covered in dirty brown hair with big teeth. 6
Whitney was scared but she was too mad to run away. She grabbed a stick and told the troll "Go clean up your mess now!" demanded Whitney. "HaHaHa" laughed the troll. "Run home and never come back here" shouted the troll. "I said you will clean up your mess" Whitney said with her hands on her hips. 7
Then Whitney saw that a frog was hopping near the trolls foot. The troll said "this will be you if you do not leave now" and the troll raised his foot to squish the frog. "No" cried Whitney and she charged the troll with the stick in her hand. With all her strength in her little body she swung the stick at the troll. The troll was so surprised that this little girl would come after him he stumbled and fell over. Whitney jumped up on the troll and punched him in the mouth. 8
Then she hopped off the ugly troll and picked up the little frog and put him in her pocket. "Now are you going to clean up your mess" Whitney said to the troll. "Yes Whitney" cried the troll. "I will clean it up now".9
Now Whitney, Penguin and her new frog friend Freddy marched the troll up to the barn. By now her Daddy had seen the mess and was in the house telling her mommy that Whitney must have gotten paint all over the barn. She told the troll to get busy cleaning and headed towards the house with Penguin and Freddy riding in her pocket.10
"Sit down young lady" her mommy said when she came in the kitchen. "Yes Mommy" said Whitney. "Why on earth would you get paint all over the barn" asked her mommy. "I did not do it Mommy, the troll did" said Whitney. "A troll came and made that mess?" asked mommy. "Did a troll get paint on your pants and shirt to?" asked daddy. "A troll did do it" "He is cleaning up his mess right now" shouted Whitney, come on I can prove it. She grabbed Mommy's hand and pulled her towards the door. "Young lady you need to stop making up stories" said her mommy as she was pulled towards the barn. When they got near the barn Whitney saw the troll running into the trees near the creek. "Oh my goodness" said her mommy. Mommy, Daddy, Whitney, Penguin and Freddy all looked at the side of the barn and on it was painted a huge smiley face with the words thank you painted next to them. "Well hunny, I don't know how you could have painted something that big so fast but I like it" said her Daddy. "Daddy it was Mr. troll that did it for me" said little Whitney with a big smile on her face.11
"Well lets go get you washed up and have some dinner" said Mommy. They went back towards the house with Whitney holding her Mommy and Daddies hands. 12
At bedtime Whitney asked if Penguin could sleep wit her again. "Of course sweet hart" said daddy. All of the sudden they heard a scream come from Whitney's bedroom. Whitney and Daddy ran towards the door to see Mommy standing on Whitney's bed. "Young lady how many times have I told you not to bring animals in the house" shouted Mommy. Daddy and Whitney laughed because on the floor was Freddy hopping around. "I forgot you were in my pocket Freddy" said Whitney. she picked up the frog and went to the front door to let him go outside. "Goodnight Freddy" said Whitney ask the little frog hopped away.13
That night Whitney slept with Penguin purring on her chest.14
