Carnival Mirror

I take these pills to make me numb,1

afraid of what life has become.2

Strained need creeps behind my eyes,3

Hiding in tricks with mirrors and words,4

Surely tatters lean into my disguise,5

This stasis becomes my dirge.6

Genius and Madness, self-same triggers for the brain7

Losing focus with this still-life, so who's insane?8

Recalling the me with black leather laces,9

I just want something, I can never have,10

Jigsaw pieces of myself hidden in shadowed places,11

These pieces of me, serve unbidden laughs.12

Even if this is unfinished, it's amazing. I felt like I was holding my breath the whole way through. You're an awesome poet.
