Trust in a stranger (pat 4)

‘It’s ok.’ She said, kneeling beside him, throwing the knife aside. He raised his head, his tearful eyes locking with hers. She took his hand in hers, as he shook, his body stiffening with every second, until she crawled towards him, taking him in her arms. She didn’t know what was going on, but knew from instinct to stay quiet and support him.2

They lay there for several minutes, as he calmed, breathing deeply, his muscular body wrapped around hers.3

‘I’m sorry.’4

‘Don’t be,’ she whispered, backing away, wiping away his tears. ‘But let me get to know you.’5

‘I can’t.’ he said, his head lowering.6

‘Why?’7

‘Because you’ll hate me like all the other people do.’8

‘I won’t.’9

‘Ok.’10

They sat in silence for a little longer. Until she plucked up the courage to talk, knowing his self confidence that had seemed so strong before had now faded away.11

‘What’s your name?’12

‘Markabre, everyone calls me Mark though.’13

‘Cool,’ she said, staring at him in fascination, she loved the sounds of unusual names, ‘mine’s Cammy.’14

‘I like it.’ He said, leaning back on the bench, his knees embraced, as he lit another cigarette. 15

‘Thanks, I don’t, so you will help me become a Goth tomorrow night?’ she asked.16

‘I’ll help you look Goth, I can’t make you Goth, it’s a state of mind, and a music taste also.’17

‘I like some Goth music already…’18

‘Ok, I like everything, from H.I.M to Cradle of Filth.’19

‘Cool.’ She answered.20

‘Why did you cry?’ she finally asked, speaking her mind.21

‘I do often, but then, I don’t know, I can’t let people close to me, I hate doing so, because I always hurt them, or they find the true me and run for their lives…’ he said, turning away in thought. 22

‘I won’t run Markabre….’23

‘Trust me, you’ll want to.’24

‘Go on then, tell me the real you see if I run…’25

‘You should get home, I will walk you…’26

‘Ok.’ She said, agreeing to him, knowing he had changed the subject deliberately.27

They walked, a tension between them, he seemed in deep thought, as she stared at him, wondering what was on his mind. After moments of silence, he looked up, into her glistening eyes, taking her hand in his. He had a warm touch for such pale hands, and gently ran his fingers over hers. she felt calm, and drifted off to a different world. She didn’t understand why she liked him, his originality maybe, or his sense of mystery, she wasn’t sure, but as she reached the end of her road, she felt an overwhelming urge to kiss him. He stared off into the distance, his grip tight upon her hand. 28

‘This is me.’ she whispered, turning to the door, not wanting to leave.29

‘Ok, I will see you sometime…’30

‘Tomorrow,’ she said hopefully.31

He turned, his hand loosening, but as contact faded, she stepped towards him, now only inches from his face, looking into his deep grey eyes, almost scary at such close sight. He leant in and kissed her softly. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer, as he rested his hands on her hips, kissing her passionately. She was almost lost, and then he let go.32

‘Go, I will see you tomorrow.’ He whispered, a slight smile upon his face for the first time. 33

She let go, walking backwards, her eyes still locked with his, until he finally turned, walking away, tightening his shirt around himself, feeling the cold. She smiled, unlocking the door, and stepping in, almost silently.34

He turned, 'goodnight Cammy,' he said, and then walked off.35

A permanent smile stayed as she strode up the stairs, feeling light footed, and into bed. 36
