"An unusual rain pattern has developed for the next week and chances of continuing for longer. Cloudy skies are in order, and a large amount of rain is predicted. It seems that this new turn has come out of no where, and will be lasting for quite a while." The news-reporter said apprehensively on the 6:00 am news. 1
Sarah had somehow been getting up at an unusual time lately (also known as early). Her mother was always the one to get up and listen to the news, the weather, Sarah was the one sleeping in till 11:00AM on saturdays and sundays. 2
The phone began ringing, and as it reached it's third ring, Sarah picked up the phone.3
"Hello?" She said wondering who was calling at 6.4
"Hey" Said the person on the phone, it was a man.5
"Hey...who's this?" Sarah asked not recognizing the voice.6
"It's Matt" He said casually. Matt was one of Sarah's best friends, they had met in seventh grade and had continued their friendship throughout highschool and now into their junior year.7
"Oh hey, I didn't recognize your voice...you sound different, are you ok?" She asked with concern.8
"Yeah, I'm fine." He said with a sigh.9
"Are you sure?"10
"I...I don't know. I'm just confused I guess, and then everything with your mom...I can't imagine how you must feel. I'm, I just called to say that I'm sorry" He said with such a sincere tone that Sarah was frightened.11
"Why are you sorry?" She said with a growing curiosity.12
"I didn't go to her funeral, I didn't come see you, this is the first time I've talked to you about it since the night it happened. I just, I couldn't handle things, everything, I have so many things going on in my mind, I've been thinking about your mom and her death...and I wish I had gone to her funeral, but I didn't...and you were there by yourself and I just, I don't know" by this point he had been choking up and gasping in between every few words. Sarah could hear him in the background crying and gasping for breaths openly in the background.13
Matt caught his breath and sustained it to normal when he didn't hear a response from Sarah.14
"Sarah?" He asked nervously.15
"Yeah, I'm here" She said with such pain in each syllable of each word that it caused him to feel a sharp pain shoot in his heart.16
"Matt, why have you been frustrated?" Sarah asked trying to push the subject of her mother out of her mind for even a couple minutes.17
"I don't know"18
"then how can you be frustrated about something you don't know?" 19
"I'm just frustrated with school and sports really" He said hoping to sound convincing.20
"Oh, um...well i hope everything works out with whatever it is your having troubles with in school and sports" Sarah said fighting back tears at the realization that she couldn't put her mother out of her mind.21
"Matt,I have to go..." She said in between sobs.22
"Ok, but...i'm coming over"23
"Ok"24
As they hung up the phone and Sarah plopped herself in a chair at the kitchen table she put folded her arms, put them on the table and laid her head carefully on her arms, crying avidly into them, thinking of her mother.25
'I'm frustrated because of you...' Matt regretfully thought to himself on the way to a sure to be crying Sarah.26
