~ I wear glasses. It’s not so much that I really need them as much as it is that I am naturally curious. I do need them to drive, however. My license says so; “must wear corrective lenses,” and so I do.1
It is raining this morning and there is a dark grey sky with a crisp chill in the air. I find myself strangely compelled to remove my glasses and see a Monet revealed before my eyes. There are no hard edges here. The colors are the same but their lines blend creating a delicate view. The rain merges colors here as well, creating a softer image; a shimmering canvas in three dimensions.2
This is how life must look to Impressionists; subtleties of space without harshness; seeing life with rain-washed eyes. I know there are hard lines and sharp edges. I know there is harshness in this world. If I remove my glasses, I can choose to see the world in this softer light.3
If I have this ability to remove my glasses and am able to see the world around me differently, I wonder if I might not try it with seeing my circumstances the same way. Maybe if I were not so hard on myself and the world around me, not so quick to see life’s failings while judging it all through too sharp lenses.4
Oh, I know this will not remove the reality of my problems, the harshness’ of my circumstances but I could choose to see them in a softer more gracious light; a light that waits for a bright sun to appear through these dark grey clouds. 5
I have a license here, I think, that allows me the freedom to see things with more merciful and gracious eyes. This license reads “must see life without judgment.”6
I might go around today without wearing my glasses, letting someone else drive and just enjoy the sights and impressions I find; enjoying life with grace-washed eyes. It’s not that I need to, I am just naturally curious.7

My multi-talented friend. Awesome!
Your observations are well brought out in this work. I loved the honest impressions shown in each carefully executed paragraph. It is a think piece that really makes the reader think and reflect. Paragraph 7 hit me the most, especially your last sentence.

Richard,
I love your postitive thoughts and how well you have conveyed them in words. Most all, including myself need that same license, "Must see life without judgement" Excellent thought. Tell me how that ride goes in the passenger seat of life. Maybe I too shall try it some day.
As always, a pleasure and a learning experience everytime I read your words.
Love, Rene' -
I have been needing to remove my "glasses", but because of real-time setbacks have found the task difficult at best. I think that, to fully appreciate and enjoy all the beauty that is interred in the hinterlands of the world, we have to see with rain-washed, slightly blurry but focused eyes. I know little about the impressionist movements, but I do know that they looked upon everything with a third eye, a deep perception of movement, of color, of form and shadow, to create. And this is what you have done.
I don't read stories much, but yours are always a pleasure to read.
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora

I enjoyed this and the concept behind it. Perhaps before lenses came into being, those people who perceived the world with less judgmental eyes were revered as saintly or special, and the invention of glasses changed all that.
It's just a thought.
Peace and joy, Tara

My...my...Richard. Breaking your mold from poetry to story. You must further this. It was goo to read. Sometimes people think we age and that is that. Like you have on your homepage:
t's better when you know
you have a home
whether in this life or
the one to come
If we all could but see from another point, maybe we would learn to live as one. Alas, it can never be so. We are too prideful to open to another with truth.

Excellant story
I see a man who life is a happier outlook. Iam gald. I also see a man who finally realize that god painted a beautiufl picture in one eyes. You dont need glasses to see all this. You can see if if you was blind like me. I have less than 3 percent left. So when it is hard to see I just let someone tell me and I can see the beautiful colors and things that is only god can give me to see. So When you see those thing think of me. For I see the same thing you see. Thank you my freind for letting me hear this beautiful written story. -
this sounds like one of those moments when something profound is revealed to you.it's those moments that saves our sanity.those moments when we realize that it's not that bad and even if it is,you don't have to accept it staying that way.some people call it looking through rose colored glasses but i like the way you have taken it.it puts a better spin on it.this is a deeply thought-provoking piece and a most brilliant insight.curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back.keep this theory in mind and you will make it.

This is pretty insightful!!! A very good write. I like the view on this one, to see things without all the sharp and rough edges. We could all use a little of this advice, I am sure. Keep on writing, I surely will keep reading. Oh, and I see a typo in the first paragraph. Curious. You spelled it curios. I know this is just a typo error, because, you spelled it right in the last line! Anyway, a very nice read.
