Squish II - Ash

I turned to see Bain dashing to put everything under the sink and clean himself up before Missy came in. He looked to me in desperation and shooed me to go. 1

"Go!!" He hissed in a whisper as the key left the lock and was about to open the door. I leapt forward to only slip on the soapy spot on the carpet and land on its full wetness with my butt! The door flew open to Missy standing there.2

Missy strode into the apartment like a goddess as the spring winds lifted her blond curls in the air and the ruffles of her light clothing worked around her slender frame like waves around a stone standing against the current of the ocean. The sun lit her with its full halo of glowing rays before she closed the door and locked it behind her. Sipping her morning coffee she sauntered up to where I sat, crouched on the ground, with my knees to my chest, trying not to be seen. She turned her head like a falcon eyeing its prey then quirked her brow with interest as she clicked her pink heels across the carpet toward me.3

"Ashley... what are you doin' just sitting there on the ground?" She crossed her arms as if about to scold a child for looking innocent when known to always be a pain. I always felt I was a bad hair day for Missy and was always in her way.4

"Well?" She tapped her heel on the ground.5

I rested my hands on the ground by the sides of my hips and crossed my legs in front of me.6

"I... was just...” I stuttered then whimpered guiltily.7

"She was just sitting there, talking to me while I was cooking, Missy!" Bain hollered from the kitchen. I could then hear the hiss of bacon in the pan and the smell of food cooking on the stove.8

"Well she's sitting right in the middle of the floor and in the way to the kitchen BAIN!" Missy whined like a little schoolgirl to him. She always left in the mornings to walk across the street to the coffee shop before she left for work as a secretary at the hospital which was only a block away. She drove there anyhow.9

A couple months ago, Bain was trying to get us jobs there as he was an operating room assistant and had a few connections but only Missy got hired. They said that I seemed to have a weak stomach for this sort of job and maybe even a weak spirit. Bain just smiled my pains away with that special smile of his and assured me to try again in a couple months when I feel stronger.10

"ASHLEY! I was TALKING TO YOU!" Missy shrilled in my face with her whiny little voice. The dark makeup she always wore make her features stand out all the more up close and when angry, she was like a raging demon in disguise as a human being.11

"Don't be hard on the girl today Miss, she's havin' a rough morning..." Bain came over with a plate that contained bacon and fresh scrambled eggs that had bits of cheese on them... the way Ashley loved them. Though she'd eat whatever Bain made she would do it anyway just to see that special smile every morning. Missy stepped over Ashley and her plate, into the kitchen to get a mug for her coffee. She complained that the thin paper cups were always hard on her delicate fingers and she needed her hands strong for the day's work.12

"Well why is she having a hard day then Bain?" She glared at me, "Is it cause the boogieman is gonna getchyou?" She rolled her eyes and filled her mug before tossing the paper cup in the sink where she paused. My heart leapt into my throat as that was where I stupidly left my bowl of mashed strawberries for her to find, but she didn't do anything and turned to give Bain a short hug.13

"Well I'm off, don't make me come home to a mess or I'll have to kill somebody." She gave Bain a fake smile before she turned to step over me again with a glare on her face.14

"Have a nice day at work Miss, don't work too hard." Bain smiled to Missy as he spoke in a sweet sing-song voice. He saved his song-song tone for when Missy was angry as it always made her smile. She grinned happily before she closed the door.15

I sighed and lifted myself out of the puddle of wet that I had sat in.16

"Wheeew!!" He collapsed on the ground in front of me.17

"That was close!" He chuckled as he looked up at me. Damn he was gorgeous! His locks of straight and shiny smooth brown hair feathered out like a crown around his head as those piercing blue eyes looked at me. I don't even know if they're real or not. It doesn't matter; he's gorgeous with or without blue eyes. Bain was always sweet and kind and always so thoughtful. What more could a girl ask for?18

"Ash? Hello? Ashley! Man yer out of it today! You sure yer okay?" He had concern furrowing his brow. I cast my eyes down at my sock that was stained a tint of pink.19

"It wasn't that dream again, was it?" He sat up and rested his hand on my foot. I turned my gaze to my untouched plate of food that was now getting cold.20

"Yea, thought so, go shower and I'll reheat yer plate up for ya and add a cup of cocoa, k?" He got up and held out a hand to me, I looked up and found that special smile he always gave me. With a sheepish grin I took his hand as he helped me up.
