Murphy's Law (1/1)

Note 1: Here is a one part Valentine's Day Gift for of my favorite slashers and readers! Hope you enjoy it!1

Note 2: I've been hitting the wine again. So this is far from my best work. I had a plot bunny and tried to run with it, but it appears the wine had other plans. Enjoy! *burp*2

Summary: Glorfindel tries to have a romantic day with Erestor, but as the saying goes, "If anything can go wrong, it will."9

______________________________10

Glorfindel tightened the straps on the saddle bags for the second time. He was getting more and more nervous as every moment ticked by, waiting for Erestor to come down the steps and join him. To keep himself busy, he spent the time worrying over all the things he was bringing along for their day together. Asfaloth turned his head back to look at Glorfindel as he fidgeted, snorting loudly at him.11

“What?”12

*snort*13

“Alright, I will stop, are you happy?”14

*head bob*15

Glorfindel turned and leaned against the horse’s flanks, staring at the steps and letting his mind wander. He wanted everything to be perfect. Aiming for a romantic day together, he was also hoping for a wonderful thank you at the end.16

A nice ride together out to the spot he had carefully chosen for their picnic would begin it. He’d spent the entire day before looking for the perfect spot. He had found it after several hours and many more protests from Asfaloth. But it was an area heavy with trees, next to a small stream. He almost kicked himself for not thinking of the spot first.17

He sighed and turned again to fidget with the saddle bags for the third time, another snort greeting his efforts. Slapping the bags lightly, he looked at Asfaloth. “Oh, and you are never nervous?”18

“About what?”19

Glorfindel straightened with a start, turning to look Erestor in the eye. The smaller elf stood before him, smiling lovingly up at the golden warrior. 20

Glorfindel fought every urge to let his jaw drop to the ground before him as he looked at the beauty standing there. Erestor had dressed in a green silk tunic and black riding pants that left very little to the imagination, his long black hair falling free over his shoulders. Glorfindel shifted slightly to make room for the growing bulge in his own pants.21

Smiling, he offered a hand to Erestor. “Are you ready to go?”22

Taking the offered hand, he smiled. “Of course!”23

Glorfindel walked Erestor to his horse and helped him into the saddle, letting his hand linger just a little too long on Erestor’s thigh as he made himself comfortable in the saddle. 24

Gathering himself again, he jumped up onto the back of Asfaloth, who snorted in protest once again, shaking his head back and forth. 25

They rode together in silence for several moments, Glorfindel spending the time staring at his love as they rode. Erestor looked over and chuckled.  “So what have you planned for us today?”26

“Not too much. A nice little picnic by the stream. Alone. Completely.”27

“Mmm. Sounds nice for a change.”28

“I thought you would think so. You have been spending too much time with the twins.”29

“They are falling behind in their lessons.”30

“Yes, but they need a break. And you need one even more.”31

The two chatted for the rest of the ride, Glorfindel occasionally reaching out to touch Erestor’s hair or thigh, which ever he could get his hands on at the given time. The two horses rolled their eyes at their riders regularly, keeping pace with each other and trying to stay head to head for their own companionship. 32

Reaching an open area in the field beside them, Glorfindel gestured towards the area he had chosen, still several miles from their current spot. The horses took the lead and headed toward the direction, struggling to keep their footing on the small rocks littering the area, both riders holding on in hopes of not slipping off.33

“Glory? What was that noise?”34

“What noise?”35

“It sounded like a thudding, behind us.”36

He shifted in the saddle and looked behind them, seeing nothing following them. “Probably just the horses. The area is rockier than I thought it was.”37

Looking behind him again, he failed to notice the trail being left behind them in the tall grasses. The first thing to go had been a bottle of wine, saved from shattering by the soft grass it landed in. One by one, each item in the saddle bags slipped out with each stumble of Asfaloth. 38

It was not long before they reached an area right before their destination where they needed to dismount. Glorfindel did so first, walking to Erestor’s side to help him down. Walking ahead of the horses, the held hands through the trees and talked about the picnic.39

“I brought plenty of fruits and breads for us to enjoy. And red wine, just as you like.”40

“Sounds wonderful! You really did not need to go to all of this trouble, though, Glory!”41

“Trouble! Nay! I want you to enjoy yourself and be happy today.”42

“We always manage to have fun.”43

“I know. But I want you to do me a favor today.”44

“Oh?”45

“Yes, will you?”46

“It depends on what the favor is?”47

“I want you to relax. You have been moody and tense lately. So relax.”48

Erestor chuckled. “I will try. And I am sorry.”49

“For what?”50

“For being so moody. There really was not much reason for me to make you sleep on the floor last night.”51

“Yes, well, that is alright. Sleeping on the floor is good for the back!”52

“You have been having back trouble?”53

Glorfindel smiled. “No. But it is good for any future pain.”54

Erestor sighed. “I really am more trouble than I am worth.”55

Glorfindel reached out and pulled him close to himself. “You worth more trouble than you could ever cause, my love.”56

_______________________________57

“I do not understand! I checked these bags three times! Everything was here!”58

“What do we have, Glorfindel?”59

“Some bread and a single apple. The wine is gone, even. I do not understand!”60

Erestor spread out on the blanket he had unfolded and spread on the floor, lying back and closing his eyes to the sun peeking through the trees. “It is alright, Glory. I am not hungry.”61

“But… oh, I do not understand! I picked all of that stuff especially for you! It was your favorite things!”62

Erestor looked over and smiled. “It was a nice thought, Glory. But really, it is alright! I am not hungry! Now let Asfaloth go and come join me down here. I am growing lonely.”63

Frustrated, Glorfindel slapped the saddle bags hard, Asfaloth throwing his head in surprise at them slapping into his side. He stomped up to the front of the horse, and just before crossing over to join Erestor, Asfaloth reached out with a snort and nipped his arm.64

“Ow! What was that for?!”65

Asfaloth made a puffing sound before turning and walking off to join his new friend, currently grazing nearby. 66

Erestor reached out to push up Glorfindel’s sleeve as he sat down. “Oh, it is not bad. It is only a little red.”67

“Yes, well, he has never bitten me before. He is being very disagreeable today; I do not know what has gotten into him.”68

“Do not worry about it, whatever it is he will get over it soon. It appears the two of them are becoming rather friendly anyway.”69

“Yes, that is something I would rather not watch.”70

Erestor laughed, curling up against his golden warrior and putting his head on his chest. “This is a lovely place, Glory. So peaceful.” He yawned.71

“It is. I love it here, although I have not come here in some time now. When I first arrived in Imladris I would spend a lot of time out here just thinking. Mostly about my family. I have never brought anyone else here with me. You are the first. And I really wanted this to be perfect, but I have already ruined our picnic, I am afraid.”72

He stroked Erestor’s long, smooth hair as he let his eyes wander down the stream, soaking in the beauty of the area. “Well, my love. We have no picnic. What would you like to do?”73

He was answered with silence. Looking down at his love firmly cuddled into his side, he smiled when he realized the little elf had slipped off into a peaceful sleep. “Well, I did ask you to relax. I suppose I cannot complain.”74

Glorfindel lowered himself down slowly, hoping not to disturb the sleeping elf attached to him. His even strokes of the silken hair slowed as he joined his love in sleep.75

________________________________76

The two had slept for several hours, and with the sun beginning to go down, they finally woke and decided it was best to spend the rest of the evening together in Glorfindel’s rooms, a nice game of chess awaiting them. They stood and folded the blanket, stopping several times in their walk to the horses to kiss each other. 77

Glorfindel scowled when they located the horses. They stood before him, batting their eyelashes at him sweetly… mud dripping off of them in clumps. “What did you do, Asfaloth?”78

*snort*79

“Alright. Come here. I need to wipe you down.”80

Glorfindel stepped forward towards the horse, reaching out for him just in time for Asfaloth to turn and run off, his companion joining him. “Come back here, you!” Glorfindel ran off towards the horses as Erestor stood still, laughing at the scene before him. Asfaloth weaved and faked moves, Glorfindel slipping and sliding on the grass as he chased him around the field, curses flying free every step of the way. The other horse gave up the chase and walked back to Erestor, nuzzling him playfully before walking off to taste some more grass while he still had the chance.81

Erestor stood and watched the chase for several more moments before Glorfindel took the fateful slip, landing on his arse in the mud with a loudly shouted curse. Asfaloth stopped and looked back at him, a laughing twinkle in his eye. Glorfindel stood and lunged, capturing the horse’s lead and pulling him back towards Erestor.82

“Well, a bath is most definitely called for when we return.”83

He jumped up into the saddle, both of them equally muddy and carrying leaving them. Erestor shook his head and began to climb up onto his own horse. Asfaloth watched, the twinkle returning in his eye as he moved forward to nip his new friend. The other horse jumped slightly from shock, Erestor losing his footing and landing with a splash into a muddy puddle below himself. 84

Shocked, Erestor just looked up at the horse standing over him, their eyes meeting finally. His horse stepped backwards, fearful of a stern talking to for dumping the little elf into the mud.85

Glorfindel squealed once he noticed the scene and jumped down. Sliding in the mud next to Erestor, he took his hand. “Are you alright, my love? Were you hurt?”86

“I am fine, Glory. Just… dirty. And more than a little wet, of course.”87

“I am so, so sorry, Erestor! This was not supposed to be like this!”88

“I know Glory, I…”89

“Can you ever forgive me? I wanted this to be perfect and now… it is completely ruined.”90

“Glorfindel! Calm yourself! I think you are the one who needs a break!”91

Glorfindel helped him to his feet, trying to wipe off some of the mud. Erestor squeaked lightly when he accidentally slapped his behind while attempting to remove some of the mud.92

“Aye! What is wrong with me today?! I am sorry, my love!”93

“Glorfindel. It is alright!”94

“Really?”95

“Yes, really! I have not had this much fun in a long time!”96

“Fun?”97

“Yes, of course! What can be more fun than watching you fall in the mud after chasing Asfaloth around?”98

Glorfindel laughed. “So you are not upset?”99

Erestor smiled and pulled the tall elf into himself. Taking his mouth in a passionate kiss, it was some time before they separated. His eyes twinkled as he smiled again. “Do I look upset?”100

“Not really.”101

“Good. Then let us finish this at home. In a nice, warm bath.”102

“Sounds good to me.”103

The End.104
