Curse of the Undead -Chapter 9

(One Hour Later)1

Lilith hid silently within the shadows of the dim-lit alleyway and watched as a small group of young couples walked through. As their laughter faded as they disappeared from her line of sight, she came out of the darkness and looked around the corner.2

She heard the squeal of tires and quickly ducked back into the darkness to watch as the car came to a stop. The door opened quickly, and when she realized who the dark figure was she jumped down behind him and snuck up without being caught. She tapped him on his shoulder, and surprised him.3

"Holy shit......don't fucking do that to me." he said after realizing who it was.4

"Well then, what news do you bring me?" she asked of him.5

"There will be a meeting. Tomorrow night." he said.6

"Hmmmm....is that all?" she questioned.7

"No, all of the underground leaders will be there as well. Corinth and Sonja included." he answered quickly.8

"Aah...very well. This will be most helpful. They're playing right into my hands." she said with an evil smile.9

"Tomorrow they will be arriving, as usual, by coach. Around 9 PM. The meeting is set for midnight. Ktulu will be there as expected." his shaken voice replied.10

"And soon I will have absolute power of the underworld." Lilith said. "You have done very well." she said, as she leaned over and kissed his lips, locking in a passionate embrace.11

She backed off as he opened up the door to his car. As he tried to close the door she stopped it from closing and held it open for a moment and spoke. "Aluka, my dear, when I have absolute power, you will be at my side to rule the underworld." then removed her hand so he could close the door. She jumped up to the fire escape above and watched as he drove out of sight.12

(Meanwhile)13

Ktulu walked to his chamber with plans of resting and hopefully making up some lost sleep. Instead a strange, but familiar presence kept him from entering through the door. He turned around and raced back downstairs. He made his way through the mingling crowd of demons that shared the house. Everywhere he looked they seemed caught up in drinking and romancing. Was this to be the future of his kind? With his head pounding, he felt like he wanted to scream.14

Just then the doorbell rang, and Ktulu came to his senses to recognize the stranger at the door. A smile replaced the anguish and dismay upon his face.15

"Angelique." he said.16

He walked over to the door and grabbed her hand. "Please come in." he invited as she stepped into the great house. She smiled and then reached her arms around him and hugged him. "It's been too long." she said.17

"Yes, 250 years." he replied. He placed his hand behind her back and walked her over to the quietest room in the house and then closed the door behind them. He offered her a seat and she gladly sat down. She reached in her purse, which she seldom carried, and pulled out a silver case. Opening it up she pulled out a cigarette. Ktulu walked over to the bar and poured two drinks. He handed her a glass and asked, "is wine still your favorite?"18

"Oh, yes, aged to perfection." she answered with a chuckle.19

They began to talk about old times and then catch up on what each of them had been through in the last 250 years. He told her about Lilith Giovanni and how she had been banished from the covenant. Angelique then asked him a question. "Do you remember Chastity?" 20

"Yes, but it's been since the great battle of Gettysburg in 1863 since I last seen her." he replied.21

"Yes that was about a year after she was turned." she said.22

"So, what of her?" he asked. Angelique answered with some hesitance, "she's my lover."23

A shocked but unaffected Ktulu simply nodded his head. Noticing that they had been talking for 4 hours, Ktulu then explained to her about his task and invited her to join in the meeting the next evening, to which she had accepted his invitation.24

He had invited her to stay the night in one of the many guest rooms but she insisted she had better get back home to Chastity who would be waiting for her. After saying goodbye he walked her to the door and watched as she left.25

He turned to the rest of the household that remained in the late hours and bid them all a pleasant evening, then returned to his room to sleep.26
