Mary Had a Lamb No More

All the children thought Mary was one of the "cool kids" because everyday she brought her pet lamb to school. The little lamb followed Mary everywhere. During classes, he would poke his head in the small window, making the children laugh. But Mary was not happy with this little lamb, for everyone was mistaken when they thought it was hers. 1

The lamb had been stalking Mary. And she didn't like.2

It happened one day, Mary was walking home from the market, where she had bought eggs for her mother. Their hen wasn't laying eggs like she usually did, so her mother had sent her to the market to buy eggs from old Mrs. Willows. Mary was walking past the field of Mr. Henry, when she spotted a lamb, grazing among the cows. 3

"What an odd sight." Mary thought. But she thought nothing off it and she kept walking. A little while longer Mary was still on the road when she heard a snap. She turned to see that little lamb, following her home. 4

"Shoo, go back to your cows." Mary said.5

But the lamb still followed, so Mary picked up the pace and began running home. The little lamb ran after her as fast as his little legs would carry him. She got home and locked herself in her room, only to have the little lamb stick his head in her window. 6

"Go away, or I'll call Daddy!" Mary said, tears forming in her eyes.7

But the lamb wouldn't leave her alone. So for the next weeks Mary just ignored him, letting her follow him around. Her usual walk home, turned into a run home, just to get away from the lamb. One day as she was running home, she heard a crack, like a gunshot, and Mary did what was smart. She hit the dirt.  8

"Mary! Mary!" 9

Mary turned to see the lamb crumpled on the ground, bleeding, and Mr. Henry running toward her, his rifle in his hand.10

"That thing was crazy, started running after you! It was stalking my cows a month ago. I was so scared when I saw it after you.! Y'all right?"11

"I'm fine, Mr. Henry, thank you." Mary said shakily. Mr. Henry put his arm around her shoulder, and walked her home. From then on, Mary lived happily ever after.12

    Excellent

Wow! Now I've read it all. A sinister lamb! You can't find that just anywhere. This was a great story. I enjoyed reading about a lamb that wasn't considered cute and fuzzy!

    i knew it! ...damn sheep..

This is a lovely piece my dear child.
I always knew those sheep were up to something.. i seem to recall the old saying said to me once... long ago... "Rebel sheep say moo." At least now, we know why.. they seemed to have picked up our language. good thing this one got shot, it might have begun to pick up How we speak.. goodness, that'd be a fright, waking up to have a sheep talking to you, my jaw would drop so much my teeth would fall out! Absolutely wonderful. Post again soon.

Good story, a different ending, the lamb following mary, I was expecting it to end all nice, wagging it's tail behind...yet what happens a twist to the story, good thinking a riveting story, well done!

right on. i have had a stalker-though i want no one to shoot him--i wish he would show his face because even though here it seemed funny, the fear is paralyzing. thank you for giving me humor to a not to funny situation.

    EXCELLENT

    huge
Way to go! ... Another story with an unusual ending ... It is good to see people entering into the spirit of this contest ...
(The lamb had been stalking Mary. And she didn't like.)
That line really cracked me up!
Just one small thing ... in this sentence ... just to get away from the goat. ... did you mean goat or did you mean lamb? ...
I like your story very much.
    Best wishes for the contest.
