Chapter 3 (Celest's story)

Friday afternoon came quicker than Celest was anticipating.1

“So this is it?” Celest said talking to Rose in English. “This is my last English class with Mr. Weir.”2

“Well it isn’t all that bad. Maybe there will be some cute hunk down there. You know how hot sweaty guys are. You know like the football players after a long hard game.” Rose replied.3

“What ever.” She replied.4

“Hey I am only trying to help.” Rose said.5

“I know.”6

“And hey it’s not like you won’t come and visit right?”7

“Well of course. I wouldn’t dream of staying away for ever.” Celest said, “Maybe I can come up and spend a weekend at your house.”8

“That would be awesome.”9

“Sweet"10

“Celest, Rose would you like to tell the class what is so interesting or will this be the end of the conversation?” Mr. Weir asked turning to the girls annoyed.11

“We’re good sir.” Rose replied.12

Celest just looked at her toes.13

“Well that’s better.” He said turning his attention back to the class.14

The rest of the class passed by quickly and cheer practice came by quick.15

“Ok girls listen up.” Celest began, “As you know this is my last cheer practice because I am going to be moving.”16

“We’re going to Miss You.” yelled Amanda one of the girls in the back.17

“Thank you.” She replied.18

Just then Jamie stood up and began to speak. “Listen squad, this may be the last day for Celest but we have a whole whack of practicing to do so we need to make a decision about a new leader.”19

“What?” Celest yelled in disbelief.20

“Well sorry Celest but you have to face the facts. You are probably not coming back for a while and we need someone to take us to semis.”21

“Well…”22

“Sorry but it’s time.”23

“Okay we need to nominate some people.”24

“I nominate Rose.” yelled Tara . 25

“I nominate Jamie.” yelled Cassie.26

“Okay any more nominations?” asked Jamie looking around.27

“Okay if not, let’s take a vote.” She said. “All who want Rose put up your hand.”28

A couple seconds passed.29

“Let’s see… 6.” She said. “Now who would like me?”30

A couple more seconds passed.31

“Let’s see… 9.” She replied. “That makes me the new cheer squad captain.”32

“Well I guess you guys don’t need me so I’m going to go start packing.” Celest said still in shock from being kicked out of her title so fast.33

“I’ll miss you Celest.” Rose said running up after Celest, “Sorry about this whole thing.”34

“I know.” She replied. “I’ll come and visit.”35

“I look forward to it.”36

“Sweet,” Rose replied. “But I have to get back. Good luck.”37

That night Celest packed what she could. At first she was determined to bring everything she owned. But after a while she discovered this was going to be impossible. So she just packed what she really needed; which still ended up being most of her wardrobe, all her beauty products and appliances etc.38

“Celest dear are you all packed?” She mom called.39

“I’m getting there.” She replied from inside her bathroom.40

“Well when you are done, please put your suitcases in front of the door and set your alarm for 7 a.m. we need to leave fairly early.” She instructed.41

“Okay mom, I will do.”42

“Okay well we are going to bed so you can finish and then get some sleep too.” She said. “We have a big day tomorrow.”43

“Good night mom.”44

“Good night dear.”45

She finished packing and then went to bed.46

The next morning she ate quick, got dressed quick and was out the door quick.47

“Why did we have to hurry so much?” she asked. “I didn’t even get to do my hair all cute.” 48

“Well we won’t get there today so you can worry about it in the motel tonight.” Her dad said.49

“Whatever.” She said pulling out a magazine and her headphones. “Just tell me when we get there.”50
