The Vacation

I couldn’t wait to get home from school today; my dad said he had a huge surprise for everyone, and that he would show it to us when everyone was home. I couldn’t focus in any of my classes, just kept thinking of the countless things it could be. Maybe it was a new TV; well at least I hoped it was, we could use a nice TV! Hmmmmm, maybe we were going on a trip to somewhere! We haven’t been on a vacation for forever. Well, I would just have to wait to find out.1

In those last few minutes of eighth period I felt like I was going to explode. YES!!!!! THE BELL FINALLY RUNG!! I was so excited! I rushed to my locker to get my stuff ready and ran outside to get on the bus. The bus ride home felt like it took forever. Only being able to pass the time by talking, it was the most boring bus ride ever. Yes! My stop! Yay! Hooray! I stepped off the bus, and bolted down my street to get home. 2

When I neared my house I saw something parked in the driveway that definitely didn’t belong to us. I came closer and saw it was an RV! My dad bought an RV!!! I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to go on a trip! I walked inside the RV and looked around. This wasn’t your normal RV, this was amazing! The furniture was so comfortable, it was better than what we had in our house! There were 3 TV’s, one in the front, and there were 2 tiny rooms in the back, each with a bunk bed in it, and there were TVs in those too! This RV was awesome.3

I ran inside the house to ask my dad when we could go on a trip. He said this weekend! If only it wasn’t a Monday! I’d have to go through another dull week of school before I could finally go on a trip. School was the same, I couldn’t take it. I felt like I was going to burst from excitement about this trip. If only I could take my mind off it for just a minute, I’d be able to sleep or something, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.4

It was finally the weekend. I packed up some stuff, just enough for a few days, and off we went. I was so happy that it was a 3-day weekend; otherwise our trip to the Grand Canyon wouldn’t have been as great, considering it would have taken all the time to drive there and drive back. I was so happy to finally be out of the state! I asked my dad why he bought this RV and why we were going on this trip, and he said, “I needed some time to get away, for things to blow over.” You see, my dad didn’t have a normal job, he was in the mafia. I guessed he had done something to anger some people, and this was the only way for him not to be murdered. 5

I resolved not to worry about it. I figured that no one would follow us all the way out to Arizona. We stopped at a gas station to pick up some food, get some fresh air, and get some gas. The gas man seemed oddly familiar, but I couldn’t place him, I figured he just looked like someone I knew. We all went inside to buy something. Everyone finished up but I was still deciding what kind of donut to get. My mom gave me $5 and said, “We’ll meet you in the car.” I was about to pay for my donut when all of a sudden I heard an explosion outside. I looked outside and there was the RV, engulfed in flames. My heart sank; fear spread throughout my body, the best I could hope for was that my family wasn’t inside when it happened. I bolted out the door and looked around for my mom, my dad, or my brother.6

To be continued. . . .7

This is pretty good, a very Americanly written piece, I must say. I assume you ARE American? Well, this is worthy of my applause. I do hope your character winds up OK.

the donut wasn't $5, the mom just gave the kid $5 so that he could just get what he wanted, didn't give the kid exact change.
