Chapter Three1

First Kiss, First Clue2

I sat on Kat's bed waiting for her to get out of the shower. Not only was my mom missing but my credit card had a twin in Kansas City. There was something odd though. It was always 10 minutes afterward, almost exactly 10 minutes after word every time. Something about that didn't seem quite right for a credit card stealer. But my thoughts were interrupted when the bathroom door swung open.3

”Kevin!” Kat blushed. She was just wrapped in a towel water dripping off her hair down her shoulders and face. The towel stopped half way down her thighs exposing her long smooth legs.4

”Uh wow.” She looked at me questioningly. “I'm uh s-sorry..er..yeah.” I got up to leave.5

”Kev.” I stopped at the doorway. “You never stutter like that around anyone. Are you okay?”6

”Yeah.” I sighed and turned around to face her. I had to catch my breath. The little rays of sunlight sneaking through her window were reflecting off the water droplets on her skin making her shine. “You are so beautiful.”7

”I uh.” Her face turned scarlet. She was so hot.8

”Wow!” I whispered and walked up to her pushing a wet lock of raven hair out of her face. I looked at her eyes. They were so amazing, such a deep blue that they were almost purple. I put my hand on her chin and stroked her cheek with my thumb.9

”Kevin.” She swallowed hard. I was making her nervous. I took a step away but she grabbed my wrist and stopped me.10

The way he looked at me made my heart flutter and my body got warm. I looked at his deep brown eyes washed with worry and love. I wanted him. There was nothing more to it. My friendly feelings burst suddenly into a tide of longing and needing. I realized I loved him.12

”Kevin. I-I love you.” He looked at me completely shocked.13

”I know Kat.”14

”No.” I blushed. “I really love you.”15

I stopped breathing. I had been waiting 18 years to hear her say that. The whole time denying that I loved her. But I did. I was aware of that now more than ever.17

”Kat.” I whispered as I leaned down. My lips met hers and I just held her bottom lip between my lips for a few moments. Then she kissed me back. She wrapped her arms around my neck and I put mine on the small of her back. I kissed her passionately and she kissed me eagerly back.18

”Wow!” She smiled after we stopped. I smiled back.19

”Yeah. Wow!” I pulled her close to me and she laid her head against my chest.20

I felt so safe in his arms. It just felt right. Everything about it felt right. I looked up at him and he leaned down and kissed me gently. Then his face lit up and he walked out of the room.22

”Kev?”23

”Those charges on the card we're called into those places in Kansas City. That's why they were always 10 minutes afterward. They knew we would check the credit card. I think they were trying to confuse us.”24

”So any charge outside of Kansas City would be where they are really at.”25

”Exactly!”26
