Doug was lying down next to Sarah, after coming in from a long night at work all he wanted to do was cuddle next to his wife and fall asleep next to her. As he was slowly drifting off into sleep, he pulled the white cover gently over Sara’s exposed skin. She was already fast asleep as he put his arm around her and held her close, whispering softly in her ear; “I love you, Sarah” She didn't’t reply and he assumed she was in a deep sleep. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and dozed off. He never noticed the blood that had pooled around her mouth on the other side of her pillow.2
Doug awoke at noon, still thinking Sarah was asleep, and he walked over to the other end of the cold bedroom apartment and pulled on an old pair of jeans that were on the floor. As he headed back towards the spring loaded mattress he noticed that Sarah’s body was sticking out at an odd angle from under the covers. He knelt down to get a closer look and saw that her arm was limp and a little off color. Doug’s heart began to race and he started to panic. Doug’s eyes drifted slowly over Sarah’s lifeless body, he saw a large round puddle of dried blood in the middle of her torso. Doug then looked at her face and her eyes were wide open, her mouth in an “O” shape as if in a shocked expression, or as if she was silently screaming. He noticed the dried red blood that covered more then half of her white pillow covers. Bile rose in his throat and then he threw up on the carpet below her. 3
