Riding my Buell is my favorite past-time. Sunset; 7:30 p.m., a gorgeous red, pink, orange- streaked sky; I was breathing in the crisp air unusual for an August evening. 2
(Because of rain earlier in the day, my full riding gear was in place, helmet, gloves, pants, and jacket. The only thing I wasn't wearing were boots - instead I was wearing the sandals I'd had on all day.) 3
I thank God for another opportunity to breathe on His created earth. As the exhalation escapes, I see two shapes that resemble dogs in my peripheral. Recognition reveals they are not dogs. 4
One is a fawn who darts back into the bean field lost from view. The other is a doe who does not follow her daughter. She would've been better off if she did. 5
She darts faster than I've seen leopards on animal planet. 6
She ran alongside me; I don't know what she was thinking. Maybe she thought as my friend, Rob, supposes I was a flashy new buck she was hoping to impress. I don't know. 7
All I know is up to the last minute I thought I was going to miss her.8
