Amber’s eyes were half open, and glued to the digital clock placed on her night stand. The time was 6:59. She dreaded seeing the six turn to a seven. But she knew it would come, and when it did turn she pulled herself right out of bed. It was yet another Friday, and she knew it would be a long one.1
Amber knocked on the door to the bathroom three times. She was greeted by the cold “congested” voice of her sister Tracey.2
“Hold on” she said followed by a long sniff.3
Amber knew her sister was a junkie, and that she’s been using for nearly every damn morning since she turned 19. But it’s been 4 years since Amber found out her sister was abusing drugs, and she’s never had a problem. So she leaves the whole ordeal alone.4
After what seems like several minutes Tracey finally walked out of the bathroom. Amber noticed that her nose was somewhat red, and her eyes looked like they were swollen, but she said nothing, and let her walk by. Tracey acted as if her younger sister wasn’t even there, she just continued to walk into the kitchen sniffing, and rubbing her nose. 5
Sometimes Amber seems clueless of her sister. She’s known Tracey for only a small portion of her childhood. The memories that Amber shared with Tracey were typical sibling experiences. They’re short but give Amber enough conscious to say she knows her sister Tracey. But Amber has noticed a change in her sister, since her childhood. Their parents were both killed when Amber was 3 years old, and Tracey was 6. They we both put into Foster homes until they were able to live alone. When Amber turned 18 she found the only person she knew who would give her a place to stay and that was Tracey. It’s been 4 years since they lived together, and they barley ever talk, only when necessary.6

The recognizable sound of a horn was heard outside the house, and Amber knew who it was at once. Wrapping her coat around herself, and grabbing her apron off the coat rack by the door she said a quick and uninterested sounding “goodbye” to Tracey, and stepped outside. 8
Settled about 2 miles from the heart of town, in the middle of the forest was their house. It was small, but had a very interesting look. And if you happened to be driving bye one day, it was sure to catch your eyes. The road it’s placed on leads to a dead end. Which means seeing a car drive by only happed on rare occasions. The home was sure to make you think as if it was used for a hunting cabin in the early winter. But with a small red Pontiac Sunfire parked in the drive, it had defenseless women written all over it.9

‘hey, Tom” Amber said while stepping into Tommy Sterns’ beaten up Ford 150.11
“well good mornin, ready for another fun day at hell, i mean work” tom said in a bright and comical way. He was always able to put Amber into a good mood in the morning, even when it seemed like an hour special of the Ren&Stimpy show wasn’t even going to curl up her lips.12
Amber slammed the door shut with all her mite, and the blue bucket of a truck sped its way towards town. 13
