Together ; It doesn't feel right at all [Chapter 25]

Kelsey was awoken by a soft knocking at the door.1

“Come in.” she said gently. 2

The nurse stood at the door “There’s someone here to see you, you do get a lot of visitors, you must be very popular”3

Kelsey laughed “Yeah, I’m very loved.” She said feeling a sense of pride. 4

The nurse laughed too “Anyway sorry to wake you up, but how are you doing?”5

“It’s ok and I’m doing great, I think Grace might be a bit hungry when she woken up but, we’re both fine.”6

“That’s good to hear,” the nurse replied “I’ll send in your visitor.”7

Kelsey had a terrible feeling that it was James, and seconds later James walked into the room.8

“Hey Kelsey,” he said faintly “You ok?”9

She looked at him and nodded, he was nervous he was fiddling his thumbs and biting his lip. She took in his appearance this wasn’t the same James that she had fell in love with the James that stood before her was nervous and unsure of what he should do and how he should act, the James she fell in love with knew everything. But he was also the same James that turned on her, the same James that would rather play football than worry her or the baby. This boy could not be a father to her child, this wasn’t the man she wanted to be the father to her baby.10

She went over to Grace and ran her hands over her thin hair.11

“Her names Grace,” She said simply “Grace”12

“That’s a cool name,” James said.13

“James why did you come?” she said curtly “You obviously didn’t care enough to take me to the hospital so why bother coming now?”14

She wasn’t angry anymore but now she new where his responsibilities lay.15

“I’m sorry Kelsey; I just didn’t think it was serious. I swear if I’d known I would have come straight away.” 16

“That’s not the point,” Kelsey said softly holding his hands “James you were my first love, my everything. I gave my virginity to you, I loved you and I even go pregnant by you, but I don’t need you James. If you don’t want to be a father to this child you tell me right now, because then I don’t have to get myself ready for disappointment, but if you do want to be Grace’s father then you have get your priorities in order. When we were together I have up everything for you, when I called you I wasn’t asking you to give up anything for me it was for our baby and you couldn’t care less. James I need to know you care, I need to know that you really want to take care of this baby, we don’t have to do it together because I don’t plan on doing so, but I just want to know whether you will be there for Grace because she’ll need you.”17

“I will Kelsey, I promise seriously I promise. I will be there for both of you whenever you need me.” James said softly “I love both of you and I will be there whenever both of you need me”18

“I hope you mean that promise, not for me but for Grace.” She said looking him straight in the eye “Let me tell you know James, I don’t need your love, I don’t want to be disappointed again, but I need you to love your daughter, and if you ever leave her James, I swear to God you will never see her again.”19

James stared back at her and bit his lip. “I promise I will stick by you two.”20

Kelsey let go of his hands and went over to Grace who was stirring quietly.21

“Ssh now little Grace, mummy and daddy weren’t having a argument just talking about how precious you were. Do you want to hold her?” she said to James.22

James nodded and she handed her over to him. 23

“She looks like you Kelsey a lot,” he said smiling at her he went back to looking at Grace “You look like your mummy don’t you. Beautiful that’s what you are just like your mother”24

Kelsey sat back on the bed; she was doing the right thing she thought. She could have stopped James from seeing Grace completely but she felt she had to give him a chance, but she didn’t want to get hurt again and she didn’t want him to hurt her baby. But she had to give him a chance to prove himself and he seemed genuine and maybe, just maybe he meant it. Maybe the could try and make it as a proper family and maybe James would stick by them. But that was a lot of maybe and she could only pray that James stuck to his word, because she would stick by hers. If he ever left Grace then that would be the end he would never see her again. She had already been through enough with him, things had been so rough for her the past months and now she just wanted to settle down and raise Grace, teach her everything that she failed to learn. 25

James handed Grace back to her. 26

“I have to go now but I’ll be back to visit you too, but if you leave hospital before then call me.”27

“Well when will you be back?”28

“I don’t know.”29

“How can you not know?” She replied.30

“I don’t know when I’ll have time.”31

Kelsey laughed “I’m sorry James but you don’t do that much with your time, you don’t work and you barely do any school work, the only thing that you do put any effort into his football and I’m sure you can put that aside to see Grace tomorrow.” She said sarcastically.32

“Ok, I’ll try.” He said walking to the door.33

“Whatever.” Kelsey said, he was already letting her down. “Bye.”34

“Bye.” He said and left.35

Kelsey held Grace in front of her.36

“You better get ready for disappointment little one, that’s all men do in your life. Get your hopes high and then leave you high and dry. Got faith in your father little one?” Kelsey said softly “Well that’s more than I’ve got in him.37

    Great

OKay, I went back and read all the chapters! Great story, far longer than anything I've written. When I only read this chapter, I thought Kelsey was being a real bitch to James. But now that I know the story line, I think you should kill him off.

    Excellent

I think this story could definatly be extended. I really liked it , but I would like to see how old these people are. I couldn't tell if they were in their late teens or early twenties. I liked the moral, because right now, guys suck completely. The moral was pretty accurate. well. let me take that back. It was completely accurate in the context with the story, but not totally accurate in reality. PLease tell me when you finish this, I am looking forward to reading the rest. Don't worry if it takes you a while though, because I understand how hard it can be to come up with something and then actually write, I mean, type it down. Good Job!
