Mixed Up - Part 2

"You...you LOVE me?"1

Star sighed,2

"I didn't want to tell you because you were all depressed about Ralf and stuff.....I thought that finding out your best friend is a lesbian might push you right over the edge."3

Emmy sat there, the knife half raised, staring into space. They both stayed like that, until they heard the door slam, and Gemma shouted up the stairs,4

"Emmy!?Emmy, you there?"5

The girls were shaken back to reality with a jump, and Emmy started whimpering,6

"Oh no, Star, she's gonna find me like this and tell mum and everything will be awful!"7

Star, being calm, simply took the knife, hid it in her bag, and told Emmy to clean herself up. While Emmy was doing so, Star slipped downstairs and told Gemma that Emmy ate something bad for lunch and had just been sick. She also told her that she didn't need to go upstairs to check on Emmy because she was asleep on her bed and wanted to be left alone. This part was true, she was in her bedroom and did want to be left alone, but Emmy wasn't sleeping, she was trying to remember if Star had given any tell-tale signs of being a lesbian when they were younger. Emmy lied down on her bed, and eventually sleep took her....  8

They were in year 5, and Miss Notch had just told Emmy off for spilling paint over Charlie Mullin's lap on purpose, because he insulted her ring that she was wearing today. Star leaned over and rubbed her arm in comfort.......10

Then they were on their first day in secondary school. Emmy was crying because she got lost and then got picked on by a group of 6th formers who threatened to beat her up if she snitched. Then she heard a voice behind her.....Star.11

"OI YOU BIG THICK FREAKS!"12

The leader of the gang turned round,13

"You talking to me retard?"14

"Ummm well, yes I am actually, but I would like to ask you something.."15

"What would that be?Though I don't really think you're in any position to request stuff."16

This particular bully had a reputation of being not very bright.17

"Spell retard."18

"Why you little..."19

It never got any further than that because Star punched him in the stomach, grabbed Emmy and ran off. Once they were in a safe place, Star gave Emmy a hug and they walked off to class, hand in hand.20

Emmy sat up slowly, all those times she thought the gestures were just an act of friendship, they were actually a chance for Star to give a hint that she loved Emmy. What had Emmy got herself into?22
