To Hell and Back: Chapter 2

To look into a soldier's eyes, the window to their soul.1

Look out from inside their mind and see horrors never told.2

You say we are just killers, it's not that plain you see.3

Take a walk inside my boots and see what I have seen.4

Hell was not at all like I thought it would be. I thought it would be more along the traditional fire and brimstone place that I had seen so many times on earth, but then again, it seemed to fit right in with everything else. You know, satan being beautifull, a waiting room to heaven, why not have a hell without fire? Actually, it wasnt all without fire, but that wasnt the most tormenting part. The tormenting part was the lack of God everywhere. Hell was the complete seperation from God, and that is torment enough for any soul. Satan was actually seemingly kind to us. He gave us a whole tour of hell before we were to be assigned to our quarters. We toured all kinds of places. The one that stands out most in my mind is the place where people had to pick up trash on the streets....in the dead of winter.....naked. Yeah, thats harsh, but what else from hell? There was the furnace room, the ping pong room (where you are used as the ball and hit back and forth between two gigantic demons), the demons quarters, all kinds of stuff for torture, and a whole heck of a lot more. Satan had this kind of evil grin in every new room...like he was proud of his accomplishments. The last stop was satan's office.6

"Alright everyone. Now you have seen hell. Im sure your all anxious to be assigned to your new quarters, but I would like to ask you some general questions first. What do you think of hell?" Satan said.7

One of the more brave, or perhaps ignorant, people said "I dont like it that much. Are you sure that we have to stay here?" 8

"Of course!" Satan replied. "Why else would I have brought you here. You see, Im a bit short of labour, so I had to bring you all in. Terribly sorry, but Im sure that you will find your stay pleasant." he said as his face lit up with an evil grin.9

"Ummm...why is there a big door behind your desk?" someone in the crowd asked. I hadnt really noticed it before, but It was a large ornate golden door with gems inlayed throughout it, and two silver rings for handels.10

"Oh, that? Thats just a little unimportant room..."11

"Awfully well decorated for an unimportant room" I said.12

"I dont have to answer to you!!!" Satan flared. "I rule this place! Now go to your quarters before I have you assigned to the torture room!"13

And with that, we were marched off to our quarters. I was assigned to the war room. It is no great secret that a soldiers most hated thing is war. It kind of has that effect on people. You sign up because you want the action and the glory, but by the time your in the fighting, you wish you werent there. The war room is a place where there is constant war. Never ending war. A nightmare for a soldier. Those were my "quarters". Not a room, just a place of constant torture. I could only imagine what the torture room was. Little did I know that while I was down there, God was about to stage a rescue...14
