I sat there looking out of my window, it was the same old view everyday, nothing ever changed around here, but I couldn't deny that what i saw was extraordinary. Whenever I looked out of my bedroom window, somehow I always seemed to be amazed, the brightly coloured rainbows stood out a mile away, they where so bold and I could make out every colour. The sky was always blue, there was usually clouds there too, the light and fluffy ones that you usually see on a warm summers day, even though we were in autumn and the weather was beginning to get colder, the sky was still the same. There were fields too, big green hills with small red and yellow flowers that all the little kids around here used to pick and make daisy chains with even though they weren't even daisy's.1
My name is Jamie, I'm only 11 but my parents say I'm very old for my age and have a brain the size of Thomas Edison. I'm not sure whether to take this as a compliment or not as I really have no idea who he is, but I always agree anyways. Ive always been a happy kid, always had loads of friends, and sometimes even the girls try to be friends with me, my mum says its because they want to be my girlfriend, but I don't believe that, I don't even like girls so why would they like me? Anyways, back to my story- as I was saying I've always been happy, but then one day a few weeks ago my Grandpa died.2
I had so many great friends but the best of all was my grandpa. I get upset about it but I don't like to talk about it in case I cry and get embarrassed. I always go red when I'm embarrassed, its obvious I'd be upset when he died, but i still get fidgety and tearful when I think about him. I used to do loads with my Grandpa, we went fishing together sometimes on Saturdays but usually he'd like to just stay in the house and chat, we always had something to chat about, whether he was talking about his time in World War 2 or just something like what he'd do when he was a boy my age. He used to talk to me, tell me things he thought, maybe he knew he was going to go sometime soon, he used to tell me he'd always be there looking down on me... but no matter what it was he spoke to me about, I always found it interesting.3
One day though, it was a Wednesday, it was cold that day, and the view looked different somehow when I looked out of my bedroom window. It got dark earlier than I would usually expect and I was getting more tired every second that went by. It was only half past 8 but I decided I'd go to bed anyways- a good night sleep could have done me some good. As I did every night, I looked out of my window at the beautiful view one last time before I went to bed. I stayed there ages that night, as if my eyes were glued to the view, scared to move away. Then suddenly, there was one bright star that looked as if it had just 'turned on' somehow, it was a really big star and was the only one to be seen in the sky. 4
I've told people about this but nobody believes me, but I know that that star up there in the sky is my Grandpa, no matter what people say. I know hes okay up in heaven now as nearly every night when I look at that view that star turns on as if by the flick of a switch, I know that that star is my Grandpa looking down on me and I know my Grandpa is okay.5

What a beautiful story, Wizzy Jo
My Grandfather was very special to me, too. It's been about fifty years since he passed away but I still think of him often. Sometimes I feel him so close and it's a good feeling.
Your story is like that, a good feeling. Thank you so much for entering the contest
Good luck

Hiya babes
i loved this... You have a fantastic story line... I think that in the part where he is telling his story about how him and his grandpa spoke and stuff... Try putting in there that his grandpa told him, when he dies or whatever everytime he looks up at the sky that the brightest star will be him or something like that. So the reader doesn't get too lost...
The ending is great, makes you a bit melancholy. Lovely babes good luck
