She sat there staring at the closet half-expecting something to jump out and grab her. Her room felt so different like it wasn’t hers anymore. Maybe she was the one who had changed. The whole house felt like she wasn’t really there like she was in a deep daydream and that’s what this was, just reliving memories.1
She thought back just a couple of months ago when she had, had a fight with her parents. She had failed yet again and was faced with explaining to her friends why she felt she had to do that. They told her to find a better way to deal, that she needed to stop. She had kept her eyes on the floor mumbling she couldn’t just flick a switch and suddenly not want to take away her life. 2
Well, again, she was wrong, there was a switch. She had about 5 years left of her life. Just a sophomore in high school and 5 years left to live. She had realized in that exact moment that she didn’t want to die. There was so much she wanted to do and see, dreams she wanted to live, but know she couldn’t live any of them. She had wanted to end it so many times wishing she could. Now death was staring her right in the face, and she couldn’t even look back at it. Time was something she was running out of, and to her that was the off button.3
