The Diary of a Lunatic: To Have Him

January 4th, 20061

The day was a happy day. It went a lot like yesterday except my brothers friends were talking to me and carrying on conversations with me. I was still wondering why he was becoming so popular. 2

"Do you still think about dad?" I asked Aaron at lunch. He gave me a look like I should already know the answer to that.3

"Of course I do. I miss him a lot," Aaron answered quietly. He looked down at the lunch table as Robbie, Brian, and three new faces sat next to him. A friend of his caught my eye. They were all good-looking but there was one that made my heart beat faster. "Hey, Robbie and Brian, you already know my sister. Becky, this is Shawn, Stephen, and Connor." I greeted them with my best hello and continued eating lunch. My brother seemed a little sad from my question and I felt bad but I needed to know.4

So, Connor was his name. He had his own car! It's a red corvette. Wow! I was hoping to get to ride in it someday. And today was my lucky day. We were standing out by the buses and Connor offered Aaron and I a ride home. Him and my brother talked for a while when Sarah approached, her fierce, smirky but sexy smile armed. 5

"Hi, Connor! Hi, Aaron!" she smiled sweetly. Then, she looked at me and dished out her most disgusted look. "What happened to ditching the dork?" I watched my brother prepare to put her in her place when Connor began speaking.6

"Look, Sarah. I don't know what you have against Becky but she's a really cool girl. She's nice and funny. In other words, she has all the personality traits that you don't have," Connor retorted. I was shocked! The most gorgeous guy in the school actually stuck up for me! Sarah just stood there, mouth gaping open. 7

"Yeah?" Sarah began,"That's nice and all but it's too bad guys will only date pretty girls." Getting the last word in, she walked away. Connor and Aaron weren't sure what she meant by this but I knew exactly. She had been watching me. She knew I was crushing on Connor. She knew I could never get him.8

"Thanks, Connor," I said barely loud enough for him to hear.9

"No problem," Connor smiled and couldn't figure out why I wasn't happy. Sarah was right, though. No matter how nice and cool and funny I was, Connor would still want to date a pretty girl. I guess Aaron finally figured me out because he elbowed me and gave me a menacing look.10

Connor drove us home. The car ride was silent, mainly because no one knew what to say to each other. I was worried Connor would figure me out, too. Aaron didn't know how to talk without revealing me. Connor was uneasy because he could feel the tension among us.11

Connor pulled up in the drive way. Aaron and I thanked him and walked inside.12

"You're crushing on Connor?!" Aaron screamed as soon as we got inside. He asked me but he knew the answer. Aaron quieted down. "You have a chance, you know." He said, honestly. I smiled and hoped he was right. What a year this would be to have him.13
