When Sarah returned home, she raced up the stairs to take her shower. Her mother only caught the blur of her clothes, as she raced up, undetected. She washed her body, still smiling at how he kissed her. She let the water drip over her face, still feeling the tingling emotion in her lips. She couldn’t help but smile at the idea of seeing him tonight, when he planned to sneak out with her.1
Kevin pulled up to her house at midnight. He put the truck in neutral and rolled up the last part of the street without his headlights on. He parked quietly and slipped up under her balcony. He picked up a small rock and threw it up at her window, tapping it.2
No answer. He threw another and hit it louder. There was still no answer. He got nervous. What if she got caught? Kevin threw another rock, just as the balcony door opened. Sarah gasped quietly as she opened her door to the flying rock. It nearly missed her and Kevin winced. 3
She came to the wooden railing and looked down at him smiling. He smiled up at her and ushered her down. She lifted the ladder and let it fall to the ground with a loud thud. Sarah gasped again and waited for a moment. After a few seconds of silence, Kevin ushered her down again. She climbed over the rail and down the ladder, landing lightly on her flip flops. Kevin picked it up for her and hid it behind the privacy fence. He came back to her, looking her up and down. She wore a pair of faded jeans, a dark green Blink-182 shirt, black flip flops, and a ponytail. Kevin smiled. “Nice choice.” Sarah smiled in return, looking at his faded jeans, blue shirt, and tennis shoes. “You too.” 4
He grabbed Sarah’s hand and led her to the truck quickly. She slipped in the driver’s door without a word as Kevin slid in after her and into the driver’s seat. He shifted in neutral and quietly drifted down the street. Sarah laughed naughtily and looked to him, admiringly. 5
Kevin turned on the ignition and sped from the street and into the back roads, which we empty. Sarah continued to smile at him and Kevin smiled back. She scooted to the middle seat and clutched his free hand. “Where are we going,” she whispered.6
“It’s another secret.”7
“I hate secrets.”8
“Then I’d better tell you now that I’m gay.” 9
Sarah laughed with glee. “Why are we whispering?”10
“I don’t mind.” He said and kissed her forehead that was buried into his shoulder. 11
Kevin drove down the back roads and turned into a long, dark, rocky path. Sarah sat up, looking scared. “Don’t worry.” He reassured her. “I’m showing you a special place.” Sarah winced a smile.12
He drove down the road slowly for a few moments and parked at the side, in the ditch. He leaned over and pulled a flashlight out of the glove compartment and opened the driver door. He helped her out and took her hand. But he broke away as he pulled out a large duffel bag and slung it over his shoulder. He shut the truck door, turned on the flashlight, took her hand again, and led her into the deep forest…13
