Life with Sargeant-chapter five

I ran and ran until I didn't know where the hell I was. As soon as I had gotten past the gate, I bolted. I ran like a bat out of hell. I was in the middle of a mass of open space. Nothing but dry dirt and sand. But I kept running. I ran for at least a half hour until I heard the sound of tires behind me and a truck sped and slid to a stop ahead of me, blocking my path. 1

"Shit" I thought to myself. This wasn't what I needed. No matter how hard I tried to get away, they always managed to get me. One of these days I'm just going to leave without them knowing. One of these days I'm going to slip through their fingers like sand. 2

"What in GOD'S NAME were you doing Murphy?" Oh great, here comes my sargeant. Or should I say, Hitler. I did my best goose step over to her, clicked my heels together and stuck my hand straight out in the air.3

"HILE DONNOR!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "PERMISSION TO REPORT, SIR! I WAS RUNNING THE FUCK AWAY FROM THIS SHITHOLE YOU CALL YOUR 'ACADEMY'. IF YOU PLEASE, I'LL JUST CONTINUE, SIR!" Damn, you should have seen how mad she got. In reality I thought it was kind of funny.4

"GETYOURMOTHERFUCKINASSBACKINTHECARMURPHY!" She yelled in a jumble of words. 5

"Whoa, Donnor, what the HELL did you just say? I didn't catch a word of that." I looked around her into the truck and saw Jhonson writing on his little clipboard. He then grabbed a bag full of what I assumed was his medicine junk and ran over to me. 6

"Sit down." He said. I stood. Like a stone wall. Stonewall Murphy.7

"Sit down!" He said again. I heard you the first time Jhonson. Instead of commanding me a third time he and Donnor shoved me to the ground. I sat in the dirt and the sand, my feet and hands caked with dirt from falling and running. Jhonson pulled out his med kit and selected a blood pressure cuff. He tightened the cuff around my arm and took my blood pressure. Or at least, he tried.8

"You have really really skinny arms. I'm going to have to use the pediatrics cuff that I just so happen to have. You're lucky you're not bunnyin dead!" I didn't know wether to take that all as an insult or a compliment. He looked me up and over to make sure I wasn't dehydrated or anything of the sort. I'm fine. I know. I've survived with blood loss before. 9

"Alright, in the vehicle. If this ever EVER happens again, you'll have no privacy, and you'll be checked, full body checked every time you sleep, shower, swim, or excercise. Got it?" Donnors last note sounded more like a growl, something an animal would do. Maybe that's what she was, a big brown bear. Certainly not a teddy bear. More like a grizzly bear who just got it's ass bitten.10

They hearded me back into the academy and to my barrack. 11

"Allright Murphy. This barack is a disaster and it always has been." Donnor took a tooth brush and some floor polish out of her back pants pocket.12

"If you're fingers don't fall off from doing work, you'll be scrubbing latrines for the rest of your life. Now get to work, and no dinner for you."13

"What the fuck? You expect me to clean this place with a toothbrush? You're off your rocker old bag! Ther's no damn way I'm doing that!" Donnor shoved the toothbrush and polish at me but I knocked them out of her hand and onto the floor. 14

"FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU I HATE LIFE AND I HATE MY PARENTS! NO ONE CARES NO ONE EVER HAS AND I JUST WANT OUT! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LET ME OUT? JUST LET ME GO LET ME DIE DAMNIT I DON'T WANT TO LIVE! YOU AND MY FUCKIN' PARENTS! JUST GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THAT I DON'T WANT TO LIVE! WHY MAKE MY LIFE MORE MISERABLE IF I ALREADY WANT TO DIE??" I screamed at the top of my lungs at her and she stood, firm and unchanging. If anyone ever wanted a living, walking, breathing definition of apathetic, Sgt. Donnor would be the one they should look for. 15

"You think I care about your life? You think I give a bunny about anything to do with you? You think I'd stop someone from shooting you? If you do, think again. No one here cares Murphy NO ONE! And as soon as you learn that, your life will become a lot easier. You think everyone should be centered around you. It's all about you, that's what you think. Well no one cares Murphy, no one. Everyone around you is a low life battery. As soon as you learn that, you'll be  able to live. And ONLY as soon as you learn that." Donnor walked out of the room and left me stunned. If anyone is as stupid to think that, they should be shot.16
