Watching Her- Part 12

Kevin had left Sarah reluctantly alone and went outside. Derek and Emma went to dirty dance, and Kevin watched them, as Emma rubbed against him dancing to Frontin’ by Pharrell. Kevin took another drink and turned away to look at the lake. Immediately, by the dancing and the lake, he was reminded of Sarah in the other room. Something in him wanted to walk back inside and just grab her and kiss her. As cheesy as it sounded to him, he just want to be next to her. But he refrained his urges and drained his beer. 1

An hour later, Kevin still hadn’t went in to find Sarah. He’d been talking to Georgia Plummet, Mandy Simmons (one of the girls at the first party), and Ben Wickers. Georgia danced with her boyfriend that was a senior, Mandy talked to some girls, and Ben stayed with him at the side. Ben laid back, resting his elbows on the wooden rail, a beer in hand. 2

“I had sex with Georgia last night,” Ben said. He took a swig of beer, his expression not changing. 3

“What?!? She has a boyfriend,” exclaimed Kevin. 4

“I know. She was drunk last night.” There was a pause as Kevin jaw dropped. “I’d never had sex before, so last night, we all went to a party. Long story short, I was giving her a ride home, and she was all over me. So, we had sex in my truck and then I drove her home.”5

“What the fuck, Ben!?!” Kevin was immediately sickened. There people were his friends, but how could he be theirs? 6

“I know, I know.” Ben looked ashamed. “I just never thought that my first time would be with a drunk chick. And this morning, I was thinking about it, and I was just… so disgusted with myself. And it took a lot for me to come to this party tonight.”7

Kevin could only gape. Ben was wrong- he’d taken advantage of a girl. “Does she remember anything?”8

“I dunno- she hasn’t showed any signs though.”9

There was another long pause as Kevin took out a bottle of beer from the cooler to his side and opened it with an available bottle opener. He took a long swig and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. Something in him had clicked. Something was seriously wrong with him and the people around him, and Ben had seen it. 10

“I just feel like what I’m doing is wrong. I mean, my parents told me last year that I hadn’t been doing great in school. I mean, last year, my main focuses were football, partying, and girls.” Ben took another drink. “I guess last night, I realized that I needed to change.”11

He handed his half full bottle to Kevin and walked away. But after he walked away a few steps, he looked behind him. “I’ll see you later in the summer, in conditioning. Have fun.” He waved him off, and Ben was gone.12

Kevin sat down on a cooler and drained Ben’s bottle. He thought for quite a while, even over the loud music, thundering hip hop and rock and roll. Ben had figured it out, Sarah already knew, but why not him? Kevin had been stuck in the realm of youth- partying, girls, and no homework. Weren’t there some things more important? Kevin realized that he could have all these things, along with football, and good grades. But he didn’t just want ‘girls’, Kevin wanted Sarah. 13

And with that thought, he set down his almost full beer and rushed inside to find Sarah. He slid back the glass door, only to find that Sarah was no longer on the couch. 14

He looked around, his heart immediately rushing into panic mode. For a third time, his fears of her with another guy taking advantage of her rushed to his brain. His breathing became deep and he looked around, finding her nowhere in site. He rushed into a kitchen which was only filled with people sitting on the counters and talking. He called out her name softly, but people ignored him. 15

Kevin passed the people into another room. He realized the house went into a circle. The living room was lovely- a huge, wide screen TV, with a glass coffee table, white sofas, and plants. There were also paintings and a large stereo, turned off at the time. Kevin didn’t bother to ask the people about a girl, or even to call out her name. He passed everyone and started to go downstairs. 16

A den: with another living room, with couches and more people. Kevin’s mind went wild. Where was she? 17

He found a hallway and went down, checking the bedroom doors, but they were all locked… except for one.18

Kevin burst into the last bedroom door. The room was dark, and was furnished with a lovely dresser, in which a large mirror stood upon it. Around it was a comfy chair in front of a wide window. In the corners stood plants, and against the wall, a book shelf and a table. Square in the middle of the room, was a large bed, with flowered blankets and matching pillows. 19

Sarah sat there, another boy at her side. Kevin stared for a moment, and the boy looked back, his brow furrowed at his uninvited presence. Kevin studied the sight: the boy’s hand lay on her upper thigh, under her skirt, the other wrapped around her shoulders. Sarah had a beer in hand.20

Kevin’s temper rose, raged, and then exploded. 21

He ran at the boy, grabbed ahold of his shirt and threw him from the bed and crashing into the floor. Sarah jumped up and screamed. Kevin didn’t take a second look at him. Kevin grabbed Sarah’s hand and pulled her out of the room as the boy cried in pain. Sarah was a drunken mess. He pulled her up the stairs and out the door, ignoring Sarah’s questions of worry. 22

Author notes

Weeee! I know this piece sounded a little cheesy with the resolution and the drama, but stay confident. You guys won't regret reading this and waiting.
