       “Alyssa, Alyssa wake up!”&;o ></o >2

       “What time is it?”<o ></o >3

5:30 get up, Shaddy got outside and we need to go find him!” repeated Nikki as she wakes me up and drags me out of bed. I got up, got dressed and went to look for my dog once again. It was frigid cold and I could feel the dew on my bare feet. The warm sun was still asleep on this May morning 2005. I pass the deserted cars wondering if I've ever seen it so quiet in my neighborhood.  Although I didn’t find Shaddy on this morning walk, this day would be one that I’ve been waiting for and will never forget…..<o ></o >4

When I arrived back at my home I noticed that there was a message on my cell phone. I quickly dialed my voicemail and listened to my dads voice bring the good news. <o ></o >5

“Hi sis, Margo and I are at the hospital and I’m proud to tell you that you’re a bid sister again! Your little sister was born at 1:19 this morning and she is beautiful! Call me when you get out of school so you can come meet her.”<o ></o >6

A range of emotions were running throughout my head. I now have a baby to help look after, someone who will look up to me and watch whatever it is I do. The moment I’ve been waiting for had finally come. It wasn’t until a few moments later that I noticed the silent tear of joy proudly streaming down my face. I knew that I’d have to try and concentrate on my days school work but it wasn’t all that easy. All day my mind would drift from the teachers to what my new baby sister would look like. <o ></o >7

Soon as I arrived home I was dialing my dad’s number for him to come get me. He was there in less than five minutes. As I quickly walked through the hospital it wasn’t long before I was hit with the familiar smell of old sick people. That wouldn’t stop me as proudly walked up to the maternity wing of the hospital. I noticed a room that was for the Hernden family. When I walked in the first person I saw was Kathy, who was Margo’s mother and my older cousin matt. He was going to be my sister’s godfather.<o ></o >8

“Hi Alyssa how are you doing?” greeted the both of them. Before I could fully enter the room I was already being ushered to a chair to meet the newest member of my family. She was wrapped up in a little pink fuzzy receiving blanket sound asleep. She was the most precious baby I had ever seen. As she slowly woke up and smiled I introduced myself to her.<o ></o >9

“Hi Kathleen, I’m your big sister. I’m so glad to meet you.” As I stared at her, I was more proud than I had ever been in my whole life. Although I had gotten myself lost in time, I was at the hospital for what I think was a few hours. When it was time to leave Matt gave me a ride home to my house.<o ></o >10

“Bye big sis.” called out Matt.<o ></o >11

Bye big cuz, nice seeing you again.” I replied as I walked towards my house to find Shaddy waiting on the front porch. I let myself inside and got into the covers on my bed. Staring up at my ceiling as I started to drift into a comfortable sleep I whispered,<o ></o >12

“Goodnight Kathleen. I love you and will always be here for you.”<o ></o >13

For some reason I thought that maybe she could hear me and she understood what those words meant. Dreams of us growing up together would soon follow as I thought of the beautiful eleven hour old baby I held earlier that day.<o ></o >14
