Letter to Papoo (Stats Final Game Plan)

Hey Papoo,1

I studied as long as I could this afternoon.  Then I took a break and figured out my game plan for this miracle I need to pull off Tuesday morning.  I'm going to finish off studying and do my statdisk assignment tomorrow and go to tutoring all day Monday.  Then I turned to another study aid.  I watched the movie Miracle, the one about the 1980 US Olympic hockey team.  2

As I watched it, I realized how similar the situations are; other than that was hockey and this is Economic Statistics.  3

1.  They were never supposed to make it very far.  I was told I'd never go back or I wouldn't graduate if I did.  4

2.  They lost 10-3 to the Soviet team three days before the Olympics.  I got a 33% on the last test, about a week and a half before the final.5

3.  They had a huge upset over the Czech team.  I got a 100% on the hardest test this professor gives in any of her classes, the same test I got a 43% on last semester.6

4.  They had a come from behind win (well tie in the first game) in every single Olympic match.  I'm attempting a come from behind "win" right now, so hopefully this is good foreshadowing.7

I know I can do this, I've pulled off miracles before.  Remember "The Catch" and how everyone hoped to God I'd catch it because they weren't sure I'd get to it in time?  I think...I think I may have had a little more than God's help on that one.  I've had the eerie feeling ever since great grandpa may have helped a little with that one.  Even if he didn't; round him up, find Uncle Pete, have Aunt Lorraine tease me about how small I write the way she teased me about how slow I ran...get the Bonds Squad going up there.  Anything.  You know what I'll be wearing so you can find me, the catch shirt.  8

9

Game starts 8:20 am Tuesday.   10

Author notes

I treat all my tests, especially the big ones, like I did my softball games to get pumped for them.

Bonds Squad reference:  The year of The Catch, my softball name was Terri Bonds.

I kinda miss that hair a little bit. The bangs not so much, brought em back for a while and I'm thinking of going back to no bangs. Gourgous? Nah. Try high school awkwardness. LOL Yes that is my lucky shirt though, I wore the socks too.

I don't know how I did on the test. The grades were posted but I've been too chicken to see if I passed or not.

Ah yes, hockey. It's big up here in Wisconsin, being so close to Canada and all. I remember the original. Good ol Mike Eruzione and Jim Craig.

I missed it by two and a half years (which flicks me off. I always miss out on the cool stuff), so I had to watch it in movie form.

    I'm a crazy fool.

No it's not...anymore anyway. Hopefully that will be in my favor and not the residuals from back then. I have a few ideas in case I do fail, so I have a plan...but I'm so scared. I've worked so hard in my other classes and one class is going to be the death of me. Whatever plan (success or failure) I implement after this semester, I will be coming to visit next semester whether I graduate or not. I need it the vacation, I'm mentally and physically exhausted. I will get some kind of degree at some point, and regardless there was this lady who said I'd succeed no mater what (a few people actually, I think you know this one in particular ). I think this wise lady might be right.

Being ancient I remember those Olympics and the "Miracle on Ice." Makes for great drama.

I like your attitude, That is what makes for success. Been there not more than a year ago, when I had to study hard to succeed. Love that you still talk to your grandpa, makes an old fool like me smile. You'll be fine, Mayne has spoken!

TerrBear, Sweetie, I just know that the big game on Tuesday will see you shine! You are an amazing young woman, and you've come too far to fail. It is NOT in your nature to fail. You're strong willed, and you have everything good on your side for this one. Batter up, Sweetie!!!!! Hugs, Patricia I love you, TerrBear!
