1
The door opened and Kelsey’s parents walked in, she caught a glimpse of James in the waiting hall. She groaned inwardly there was still more people to deal with. 2
The first thing her parents did was look at Grace. Then her father looked at her. 3
“Why didn’t you tell us Kelsey? Why?” he asked. 4
Kelsey couldn’t bear it; she could hear his voice breaking. She never meant to hurt but it was unavoidable, she meant to tell them but she never seemed to work up the courage. 5
“I tried to Dad, honestly I did, but it never felt right. You were always praising me with how well I was doing and I just couldn’t bear to see you sad.” 6
“You should have told us though Kelsey, then everything would have been sorted out.” Her mother said. 7
“Yeah because you would have made me get an abortion.” She retorted. 8
“No! Never, I didn’t mean sorted like that hunny, I meant that you wouldn’t have had to go through this alone,” Her mother said softly. “But she is beautiful what’s her name?” 9
“Grace, that’s a wonderful name,” her mother cooed “May I hold her?” 10
Kelsey nodded and watched her parents fuss about Grace. 11
“So what do we do from here?” she wondered out loudly. 12
“Well that’s up to you,” her father said “We want to help you Kelsey, raise the baby and everything, because you’ve still got school” 13
Kelsey sighed inwardly, she was sure her parents were going to kick her out but now she and Grace had somewhere to stay. 14
“Thank you Dad,” she said beginning to cry, all the tears that she’d been holding in just seemed to keep on flowing “Thank you so much.” 15
Her dad rushed over to her bedside. 16
“Hey, you didn’t think we were going to kick you out did you? You know we’d never do that. You’re our daughter, and we’ll deal with anything you go through together.” Her dad said hugging her. 17
Her mother stood silently watching the scene she’d always wanted Kelsey to depend on them, even if it was for small things, because Kelsey had always been an independent girl and now it seems that her wishes were finally coming true. But she didn’t want something this big, but maybe this was what she needed so that she didn’t feel that she had failed Kelsey in life. Now she could help Kelsey like she always wanted to and she could help her through Grace. 18
“Your fathers right Kelsey; we are here for you no matter what. We love you, just like we love Grace and that’s all that matters.” 19
Kelsey was overwhelmed with emotions, this scene that she’d be dreading for months turned out to be the opposite of everything she dreamed. So this was what it felt like to be loved. 20
She was going to make the best out of it and a better life for Grace. 21
They all looked up when the door opened. 22
“Sorry to interrupt,” the nurse said “but I think the mother and daughter both need a little nap.” 23
“Ok,” her dad said “We’ll be back later ok?” 24
“Yeah, we’ll be back hunny.” Her mother repeated and they both left the room. 25
“Thanks for that.” Kelsey said to the nurse. 26
“No problem, emotions run high on days like these, you just get your rest,” The nurse said “You have one more visitor but I’ll send him away.” 27
Kelsey lay her head on her pillow; one more visitor it could only be James. She looked over at Grace. 28
“What an eventful day it’s been, little one and we still have one more person to see. I love you Grace.” Kelsey said and fell into a deep sleep.29
