The Emotion Drainer

It was the brightest and the coldest winter night Jane had ever seen. The snow was all over the roads and had covered the green beautiful grass in front of the house. She was sadly looking out of the window in her room and hoping that the snow stops falling. In a while and the other, she was glancing at the clock – she was desperately waiting for midnight to approach. 1

Her eyes were heavy and she was emotionlessly looking at the bed. She knew that she must not sleep because she had given a promise. She promised her two friends, Lily and Katrina, to be at the park by quarter past midnight...2

Lily was short and thin. She was tiny and when anyone knew that she was sixteen an unpleasant expression was forming on their faces. Katrina – Katy – was tall and very thin. The common thing between the four girls was that they were all fans of adventures...3

The clock showed 00:00. Jane opened the window and started climbing down the wide spout by her window. She was quite confident because it was not the first time she was doing this forbidden act. 4

The snow was falling down at the neighborhood so slowly and calmly… Jane was immediately covered with a thin layer of the cold white snow. Her face felt cold because the rest of her body was tightly hiding under a thick layer of clothes. Her long crimson hair was covered with a wool scarf and her wrists were inside the gorgeous red gloves.5

The only thing in her mind was regret. She wanted to sleep and her face was starting to freeze. She felt that something was slowly coming out of her nose.6

“I don’t want to get cold,” she whispered taking a tissue out of her pocket. 7

The park gates were closed. Jane shook them and after getting sure that they won’t open she climbed over it. When she landed on the other side she a couple of swears were released from her mouth. She was already bored from the stupid ideas of her friends. 8

“Jane!” someone whispered. Jane looked around and saw her two friends standing under a tree and giggling. 9

“What is the joy about?” Jane yawned.10

“You looked funny while climbing that gates,” giggled Katy. 11

“Whatever,” said Jane and leaned to the tree’s trunk. She was nearly out of energy.12

“Come on! Cheer up!” smiled Lily and put her arm around Jane’s shoulders. She looked angry, upset and tired too.13

“What are we here for Katy?” Jane asked with temper. It was generally Katy’s idea to meet at midnight. And the most annoying thing was that Katy did not tell them what the reason for such a secret meeting was.14

“We’re going to the Fear House,” said Katy. 15

“What for?” asked Lily removing the snow from her coat. She took of her scarf and shook her head, letting her golden hair free. “It is closed anyway. And if we manage to get in there, the mummies and stuff won’t move. The park is out of power at night. Did you forget?” 16

“What the hell is wrong with you two?!” Katy raised her voice in anger when she saw the tired and bored expressions on her friends’ faces. “If you are not interested then go home! And I’ll go there alone!”17

“Okay! I’ll stay,” Lily surrendered. 18

“Well then… see you tomorrow,” said Jane and walked away. She felt bad about what she was doing but she knew that it was right. The girls could not even say a word. Jane’s behavior was just so unusual.19

*******************************************************20

Jane was a sixteen-year-old girl. She was tall, thin and beautiful. She had big green expressive eyes and long crimson hair. In addition to that, she was very smart.21

She woke up in the next morning and went down to the kitchen. As usually, she had her breakfast and took off to school. She came into her class and…22

“Where are Lily and Katy?” she asked her classmate Jason.23

“Didn’t see them,” he said. 24

Jane was concerned about her friends that did not show up in the school that day. She went to their homes and found horrifying news. Both Lily’s and Katy’s families were in a hysterical panic. They phoned the police… they looked and searched everywhere.25

Jane, in her uniform and with her rucksack on, rushed to the park. She knew that her friends were in the Fear House… And she was pushing away the thought that they might be dead.26

She bought the ticket and ran into the Fear House. The only thing people were supposed to do in there was just walk through a narrow dark tunnel and the monsters would jump from the walls or fall from the ceiling…27

Jane was alone in the tunnel because all the people in the town were already bored from the stupid and not-too-scary ‘house’. She was looking everywhere but there wasn’t really somewhere to look.28

******************************************29

There were posters of the girls with a big ‘MISSING’ on them everywhere. Jane told their parents about what happened that cold night. Over and over… the park was searched and without any result…30

******************************************31

Christmas holidays started and the girl was hopelessly looking at a photo. She was missing her friends very much… She never cried although she was sad because she knew that they will come back… at least she thought so.32

On that photo, they were hugging each other and widely smiling. They were together… happy… smiling…33

She took a deep breath of the cold air and looked at the snow falling outside the window. She did not feel as if it was a Christmas Holiday… not without her friends.34

It was almost midnight and the night was so different from that night… the night her friends disappeared. It was warm and the moon was hardly seen. Nothing common. Jane took her coat and a torch and climbed out of the window. She was walking towards the park… She knew that the Fear House was somehow connected to the disappearance of her friends. 35

She climbed over the gates and ran towards the Fear House. She unlocked the door and walked into the tunnel. She lit her torch and started observing the walls. She was examining all the zombies, werewolves, vampires and other beasts on her way….36

She suddenly stopped and stared at a ghost… a figure covered with white clothes and that had holes in the place of the eyes. She looked closer… These eyes… blue… pure… so innocent... so familiar…37

She pulled the white clothe and released a scream. She saw her friend. Lily was motionlessly standing with a sad expression on her face. Her eyes were opened and she definitely was not dead… something worse…38

“Lily?” whispered Jane and held her hand. It was warm and there was a slow heart beat. Jane could not hold her tears from falling down. “What happened to you? Lily? Do you hear me?”39

She was sitting there with Lily in her arms. She was crying. She did not know what was happening…. After a long time, she finally brought her senses together and decided to go for help.40

“I’ll just find Katy and come back,” whispered Jane and left Lily lying on the floor. 41

She started walking through the tunnel once more – and now observing every monster. She stopped near a werewolf and looked at the wall behind it. There was a tiny handle on the wall that Jane had never seen before. She slowly walked towards it and pulled it down…. The floor under her literally disappeared and a watery hole was formed under her legs….42

She rubbed her back. She was in a wide dusty room with only one door. She looked around and could not find another way out. The ceiling, where she had fallen from, was too far away and it was closed.43

She opened the door and looked into a long tunnel with door on either side. She had no other choice so she entered. She stretched her hand to push one door but before she could touch it, she heard a yell. Her legs started running on their own. She pushed the door she heard the yell from and…44

A tall youth was standing in front of Katy, who was chained to the wall. She was motionlessly hanging on the wall with blood over her face and body. 45

The torch fell out of Jane’s hand and broke down. Jane turned around and started running away. But soon she was caught by her elbow and dragged back. The youth pushed her towards the walls and whispered in anger, “Yes… New feelings…”46

“Who are you?” yelled Jane. 47

“Me? I am a Drainer,” he said and moved his cold fingers across Jane’s neck. 48

“Please… Leave me…” Jane started crying. “Leave my friends…”49

“Leave you?” the youth giggled. He walked away and Jane did not even think of running away. Her knees bent and she slid down to the floor. “A Drainer can never leave his victim.”50

“Drainer?” whispered looking at Katy’s body that was hanging in the room. 51

“Yes…” he said. “Nobody knows about us because we always kill our victims!”52

“Please… Leave my friends…”53

“We drain all sorts of things from human beings…” He seemed not to even hear Jane. 54

“I will do anything!” she insisted. The ‘drainer’ stopped and looked at Jane with a hungry look. He was definitely charmed by the idea.55

“Anything you say?” he asked. “Anything to free your friends that came here by themselves… That chose their path…”56

“Yes!” she yelled. 57

She thought that it was a part of her responsibility that her friends were caught by this strange demon. All the time that passed, she was accusing herself for leaving them. She regretted for everything…58

The drainer sat in front of Jane and whispered into her face with strange enthusiasm, “Will you do anything?”59

“Yes…”60

“Even become a drainer?” he asked.61

“Yes.”62

The youth started saying something about the rules if she agrees but Jane was not listening. She was looking over his shoulder at the girl hanging on the wall… not dead… not alive…63

“Do you agree?” he asked.64

“Wha… Yes,” she said.65

The youth stood up and started noisily laughing. He started shouting something about freedom. Suddenly everything became black…66

*****************************************67

Jane opened her eyes. She was in her room on her bed. She had a strange feeling. She looked at the calendar on the wall and saw that it was not Christmas yet. It was the day she found that her friends disappeared… She jumped up and changed her clothes as fast as possible. She ran out of her house and headed to Katy’s house, that was the nearest. She started knocking the door.68

The door opened and Katy appeared in the doorway. She had a sandwich in her hand and her mouth was full of food. “Wha’ ‘re uo doin’???”69

Jane jumped at Katy and hugged her. She was crying… from the happiness that it was over… at least she thought so…70

*****************************************71

At the afternoon, she was sitting with Lily and Katy at Lily’s house. They were talking about the school. Jane did not dare to tell them about the dream… 72

Lily laughed and held Jane’s hand. The expression on her face changed and she screamed. 73

“What’s wrong?” asked Jane.74

“What was that?” whispered Lily hardly breathing. 75

“Lily? Are you alright?” Jane asked and put her hand on Lily’s forehead to feel her temperature and immediately Lily started screaming.76

Jane jumped back and looked at Lily with fear. There was definitely something wrong. Jane’s eyes moved towards her hands… There was a big… green… shiny mark on each hand… It was in the form of an eye… that was moving…77

“What is this?” asked Katy looking at the mark. 78

“I… I…” mumbled Jane with fear looking at the green eyes which was staring in all directions. “I… I have to go!” 79

She ran out of the house. She was running and running… It was true!! All of it! It was not a dream!! Jane sat under a tree and started crying…80

The drainer said many important things while Jane was not paying attention. He said, “You are going to be a drainer like me. You will need emotions. You will become hungry two days after you become a drainer and every one you touch will be drained of all emotions. You will also be immortal and you will not be able to die unless someone agrees to become a drainer instead of you. You can pass this curse to an other person under two conditions. The person has to know about all what he is going to face and has to agree… not to be forced…”81

Jane was cursed for the rest of her life. She became a drainer… She sacrificed herself for her friends…82

Soon she left the town and started traveling around the world. It was difficult to kill people… but they always died when she touched anyone of them… 83

And the next time you are offered something, be sure you hear the rules and conditions. And if you find a drainer that offers you the curse… think about it twice…84
