Chapter Twenty-Five1
Eddie slammed his fist into the doorframe, and swore when little droplets of red formed upon his knuckles. “Where the hell is she? I told her to come home.” He was more worried then angry, it was already getting dark outside. What if something happened to her? Where the hell would she have gone?2
The ringing of a phone in the next room interrupted his thoughts, causing him to punch the doorframe once more. “The machine can pick it up, I’m not in the mood.” Having said this with a sigh of resentment, he walked towards the ringing. 3
Roxanne’s machine answered it before he could, and with a shrug Eddie plopped down into a chair. “I KNOW YOUR THERE EDDIE. Do you know where Roxanne is now?..” In the background Roxanne’s muffled words could be heard. “Now I said SHUT UP BITCH. So anyway, dear Eddie, it is unfortunate I should have to call you with this bad news. The BITCH you were screwing is going to DIE…. hope you sleep well tonight…” The click brought Eddie back to the present. 4
The voice had been distorted, but definitely female. Goosebumps crawled upon his skin, even as a bead of sweat dripped down his forehead. Quickly the phone was in his hand, and an Officer was informed of what just occurred. Where the hell would she have gone to get into this type of trouble?5
Then it occurred to him, it was a female voice that said “The BITCH you were screwing…” Only one woman would have any reason to say that – Tara. Suddenly it did not matter that the police were on their way, and it did not matter that the logical thing to do would be to wait. He convinced himself that logic was not going to help him one bit with this situation. 6
As the car pulled out onto the street, the police pulled in to the parking lot. Eddie did not even look back; the police could figure it out. Would this be a huge mistake? He could not help but have doubts now that he had no choice but to follow through. 7
Tara’s current resident was a hotel down town; this information was happily given from one of Tara’s friends. It was a hotel known on the streets, as the place where the sex cost hardly anything, and the woman were all sluts. Eddie did not have first hand experience to back this up, but he hoped it was not as the rumors claimed. 8
The old man who ran the hotel unlocked Tara’s door for Eddie, which surprised him greatly. His cover was not even half way believable, but then again the man was old and drunk. Quickly the hunched over man stumbled away; leaving Eddie in front of the unlocked door. Pushing it open as quietly as possible, he stepped into the dark room. A strange odor filled the air as he walked in farther. 9
Fumbling around in the dark was not his favorite thing to do by far, but he managed to find the light switch in record time. As soon as the lights flickered on, his stomach caved in on itself. Fresh blood was pooled under Tara’s bruised naked body, and six bullet holes were noticeable. One bullet pierced her abdomen, another pierced through her left thigh. It was almost as if the killer wanted to see her bleed all over, possibly even after she died they shot her more. 10
Grabbing his cell phone, he made his second call to the police station in the same night. After getting scolded for going off on his own hunch, the officer said he would send out other officers to secure the crime scene. This time the officer made it clear he should stay where he is, and to not let anyone into the hotel room until they arrived. 11
Author notes
And now it all comes together...And I know these chapters are getting shorter, but I want to add what I have written before I forget to like before. But the chapters are also getting shorter because the end of the novel is approaching quickly.
