About a week after the Frisbee contest,1
Whitney saw a nearby rancher pull up to the barn.2
She knew it was wrong to listen in,3
But she snuck close to the barn door anyway.4
She heard the rancher offer her Daddy $20,000 for Dreamer,5
Because after the contest his son said he wanted her.6
Her Daddy told the rancher he would have to think about it,7
Because Dreamer was very important to Whitney.8
Late that night she overheard her parents talking about the ranchers offer,9
Her Daddy was telling Mommy that it was a lot of money,10
They could get all the repairs done around the ranch with some extra for vacation.11
Her mommy agreed but also said it would break Whitney's heart to lose her cow,12
They said they would tell her in the morning.13
Whitney cried herself to sleep that night,14
They can not take Dreamer from me, she said.15
She woke up before dawn the next morning and packed a few things,16
Very quiet she was as she snuck out to the barn.17
Dreamer she whispered,18
Come on honey we are running away.19
Off they went down a long path into the woods,20
Whitney stayed close to Dreamer because she had never been in the woods at night.21
After walking for awhile the sun came up and Whitney's little legs were tired,22
They took a break by the stream,23
Whitney fell asleep.24
Back at the house her family was all upset,25
Looking everywhere for her.26
When they found out Dreamer was missing too,27
They knew she must have overheard them talking.28
Whitney woke up and she was cold and scared,29
She heard noises in the woods near her.30
Dreamer was acting funny too,31
Suddenly she heard the growling.32
She knew coyote's were near,33
Come on Dreamer we have to run she said.34
They ran as fast as they could,35
Whitney tripped over a rock in the ground and fell hard.36
She was crying and her pants were torn,37
She could not move her ankle and was really scared.38
They could hear the coyotes getting closer,39
Dreamer lay next to her on the ground.40
"Oh Dreamer what are we going to do" Whitney sobbed,41
Dreamer nudged her with her nose.42
Whitney thought maybe she wants me to get on,43
So slowly she crawled on Dreamers back.44
Dreamer stood up on wobbly legs,45
When the coyotes came out of the bushes.46
Dreamer charged at the biggest one,47
While Whitney held on very tight to Dreamer's fur.48
Dreamer knocked the coyote into the air and kept running,49
Whitney could hear the other coyotes growling,50
Chasing them as they fled.51
Dreamer was mooing loudly,52
As they ran faster and faster towards home.53
Moo, Moo, Moo yelled Dreamer,54
The other cows heard her cries and began mooing as well.55
Whitney's Daddy and Brother heard the noise and ran out to the field,56
Just over the hill they saw Dreamer running with Whitney on her back.57
They also saw the coyotes chasing them and daddy went and got his gun,58
He fired into the air to scare the coyotes away.59
Everyone held their breathe as they got closer,60
Dreamer got close to the fence.61
She jumped into the air,62
Whitney holding on tight.63
They made it over the fence with inches to spare,64
Hooray for Dreamer shouted daddy.65
He carried Whitney into the house,66
With Dreamer watching from the window.67
Her mommy took care of her ankle,68
She had a bad sprain.69
A little later in the day,70
Whitney heard her daddy outside with the rancher.71
He told him that all the money in the world,72
Could never make him sell Dreamer.73
As soon as Whitney was able to walk,74
They played Frisbee and laughed and laughed.75

This is also a very nice story, but I have to agree with peblenboulder, it does seem to be lacking something. Not sure what though
And also, can I make a suggestion?
YOu say somewhere:
"They knew she must have overheard them talking,
When they found out Dreamer was missing too."
what about turning the two sentences around?
"When they found out Dreamer was missing too.
They knew she must have overheard them talking,"
I guess it's just personal taste, but it seems better this way. I might be wrong though

this is kind of not as cool as the one i read a few minutes ago... the first one was original... but... i don't know this one is kind of lacking something. keep trying though. And can cows jump a fence? i don't know that i've ever seen one jump a fence... I come from western ny... that's cow city... more cows than people where i grew up, and never once in my life have i seen a cow jump a fence... i like the imagination though. Good luck getting this series published.
