Chapter three:1
She got up her courage and walked towards him. His face lit up up even more as he thought about what to say to her. She was even more beautiful up close. Her hair cascading in loose curls down her back. Her bright blue eyes piercing into his, almost as if to figure him out for herself. They met in the middle of the street. She smiled and said:2
"Hey! I'm Malorie Anderson! I live just over there!" She pointed behind her back, then sticking out her hand in a greeting. He took it and then he felt so much for her. He wanted her, he needed her, and he was falling in love with her, if he hadn't yet already.3
“Hi…I’m Jake Spencer!” she smiled4
“Nice to meet you Jake!” he smiled too and then they both realized their hands were still intertwined. They pulled away, blushing.5
“Would you like to come in?” he asked.6
“Umm...sure, for a little while I guess!’ she followed him inside he yelled to his mom.7
“Mom…MOM!”8
“What?” she came out of a room down the short hallway,9
“Mom…this is Malorie Anderson. She lives up the street.”10
“Hi, nice to meet you Malorie,” she shook her hand “You were the one running this morning?”11
“Oh yeah, I’m on the cross-country team. So I run every morning.” She said with a smile. That answered Jakes question. “I had a meet today and I took second.”12
“Really WOW!” his mom said with amazement “out of how many?”13
“About 30!”14
“Jake, you better start practicing or she is going to beat your butt once you start. But I better get back to be putting the computer together! Nice meeting you Malorie.” She went back to the small room. Malorie turned to jake15
“Hmm…she’s nice!” she said with a smile, her wonderful smile.16
“Yeah I know. Do you want something to drink?”17
“Sure.”18
“Follow me!” he turned towards the kitchen in the back corner of the house. It was a big, bright kitchen, like the rest of the house, A large island at the center. He pointed to the bar stools there and asked her to sit down. “Do you want water, coke, or apple juice? That’s about all we have here right now!”19
“Waters fine.” She sat down, he grabbed two bottles of water and then sat down next to her. She took a drink.20
“So Malorie…how long have you lived in this neighborhood?” small talk was all he could accomplish at the moment. She was really close to him. He could smell her perfume; feel her body heat close to him. If he wanted to, he could lean over lean over and kiss her, but he would refrain because he didn’t know how she thought of him. She could think he was a total wacky job for all he knew.21
“Maybe about six years.” It was obviously a newer development considering how new the looked. “Where did you used to live?”22
“Colorado!” he said taking a drink of his water23
“Really! Can you snowboard?”24
“Yeah pretty well!”25
“I’ve always wanted to try that! It looks so…Fun!”26
“Well it is…I’ll have to take you sometime!” he said with a smile, looking over at her.27
“I’d like that!” Malorie couldn’t help but smile. She too was nervous. Being this close to him was driving her crazy. What would she tell Eric if she were to kiss him? And after all she just met him. Maybe this was just a simple infatuation, but reviewing her thoughts as they both contemplated what to say next, she knew that it wasn’t just that. She liked him a lot and at the moment Eric didn’t matter. She wanted to be with Jake, and that’s all that mattered to her. They sat around and talked for a while. Just about random things, no secrets yet, just things that had happened over the years. Family, vacations, schools, and sports. She filled him in on stuff at the school he would be going to with her. Teachers to avoid, certain people, he would for sure be on top with the rest of her and her friends. He would start when the rest of them did next week. She was a junior and he was a senior, like Eric. But she was in all AP classes so they were for sure to have one or two periods together. She stayed for dinner and got to know his parents. They were both wonderful people and she enjoyed the time she had spent over there. Later that night he walked her home. At her door she thanked him for dinner and everything else.28
“Jake, I had a great time, your dad is absolutely hilarious!’ and he was. Throughout dinner he had entertained them with impressions. His younger sister, Amy, was just the same. “But, thank you for a wonderful night!”29
“It was fun. Thanks for coming!” he gave her a smile which caused her to smile back. “Malorie would you like to do something tomorrow or the day after that?” he asked her with uneasiness. She smiled again and replied:30
“Yes, that sounds good. Here call me in the morning.” She took out her phone from her back pocket. He did too. She gave him her number, which he stored in his phone, and she did the same.31
“So I’ll talk to you tomorrow then?”32
“Yeah. I’ll talk to you then. Jake, again Thanks!” he smiled again and waved as her headed down her driveway. He thought about her as he walked home, and then went to his room to put his TV and DVD player and everything else together. His thoughts of her as he worked, He would be seeing her again tomorrow. He had never felt this way about any girl except Morgan, but once again he pushed those thoughts away and resumed what he was doing.33
Malorie stepped into the house and at that second her phone rang. It was Eric. 34
“Hey Honey!” she said cheerily trying to act like her normal self. Trying not to act as if she had just spent the entire day with another guy and ignored two of his calls and four text messages.35
“Where were you all day? I tried calling you a couple times and left a few messages!”36
‘I was out! I’m sorry, I left my phone at home because I was really only going to be gone for 20 minutes, but then my mom decided to run all over town instead!”37
“Oh…okay…I had just been wondering if you wanted to go to the beach with me, Tiffany, Sarah, Mike and Alex. But it’s to late now! Do you think you can tomorrow?”38
“Umm…tomorrow isn’t good either! Can we do next week?”39
“Yeah fine! Have fin doing whatever it is your doing! I’ll talk to you later. Love you!”40
“Love you too!” then he hung up, but Malorie was in to much of a daze about Jake that she honestly didn’t notice his lack of excitement.41
And as Eric hung up the phone, he knew he would have to tell her about him and Sarah. They had spent a lot of time together and they had fallen for each other. But Eric couldn’t tell Malorie, not yet anyway.42
