I hung up the phone and shrieked!!! Cindy you're not going to believe it.2
That was Awards Services and I won the contest. Oh my gosh!!! I'm going to spend a day with Mel Gibson. I'm shaking all over now. Cindy is laughing at me. I have to go to the salon and get my hair and nails done, oh my gosh!!! What am I going to wear? I'll need a new outfit too.3
By this time Cindy is practically rolling on the floor. "Girlfriend will you calm down", she says to me. Ok, ok I'm alright. Whooooo hooooooo!!!4
Yeah, I'm more than alright. Hahaha, I'm spending a day with the man of my dreams!!! I call the salon and my hairdresser had just gotten a cancellation, so she could fit me in about an hour later. I rushed to get ready and off I went. I told her what happened and that I wanted something special. She went to town and it was fantastic. While there the manicurist did my nails too. I was fit to be tied. 5
I arrived home two hours later with bags in hand, grinning to beat the band. Cindy had called our friend Kathy and she was there now. "When is he coming, when is he coming?", she screamed almost as loud as I did earlier. Not till tomorrow I laughed. You're a day early if you intended to meet him. "Danielle I don't believe it, you are spending an entire day with Mel". She was almost hyperventilating at this point. You couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. I don't think I slept a wink that night. I must have though, I dreamt that I was on a sailboat with Mel and it was a sunny day, not a cloud in the sky. A light breeze filled the warm air and his eyes were liquid pools. I sat there smiling as we sipped champagne and dined on succulent shrimp cocktail with Cesar's salad. A waiter poured as he sat there in a tank top and close fitting shorts that revved my motor if you get my drift. Tee hee!6
We were exchanging small talk and I felt so at ease, as if it were an every day thing. I talked about his movies and how many times I had watched them. He just smiled and I melted away. "I'm really happy that you enjoy my movies that much Danielle", he said as I looked in his sparkling eyes and imagined the two of us being intimate. I must have blushed because he asked, "Is the sun getting to you?" oh no I'm fine.7
It feels wonderful actually. The afternoon rolled by quickly, we docked and headed to the suite for a quick shower and change of clothes. I just kept telling myself it's really happening. I came out of the shower and there was an evening dress waiting for me on the bed, so luxurious and it probably cost more than I made in two months time.8
There were shoes and a matching bag, jewelry that I'd never be able to buy in my entire life time. My mouth must have been hanging open because he laughed and said, "I had them brought up from the boutique while you were showering". I looked at the size on the label and it was a perfect fit, size six petite. All I could think was, this guy noticed. 9
He went in to shower and I readied myself. When he came out I couldn't believe my eyes, he had on a tux with a cummerbund that matched my dress perfectly. "I took the liberty of ordering room service before we head to the show" he said so casually. Just then a knock on the door and a line of waiters with carts and fine bone china that looked antique came strolling in. We feasted on caviar, lobster and an array of fresh greens.10
More sparkling champagne had my head spinning now. The waiters never left, making sure everything was just as it should be. When we finished they whisked it all away and off we went to see Les Miserables. We had a private box and I sat there dreaming as I watched little Coquette on the stage. It seemed like I blinked and we were standing applauding the finale. Oh no I thought to myself, did I miss the whole thing?11
As we headed back to the suite I didn't want this to end. I was sure he would drop me off and my dream date would end there. But it wasn't over as we stepped out he took my hand as we glided through the doors being held open by attendants practically falling over each other.12
I giggled to myself thinking, are we really going to spend the night together too. We entered the suite and the lights were already dimmed with a table that had been set with you guessed it, more champagne and fresh oysters Rockefeller. There was soft music playing in the background and the balcony doors had been opened allowing the shimmering moonlight to create ambiance that was beyond my wildest dreams.13
We danced slowly around the room and then he lifted me into his arms while his eyes never left mine. He kissed me softly as he lay-ed me down 14
on the queen size heart shaped bed. I was lost in a state of euphoria as he was next to me and then it happened. My alarm went off waking me from the most beautiful dream that I would ever have. I looked around and I was in my own room, but next to me was a single long stemmed red rose with a ticket stub from Les Miserables tied to it. Did it really happen?15

hi there
you are soooo prolific!!! got sooo many poems. do you write everyday?
i'm just a beginner..i mean on the site...been writing off and on whenever i'm in the mood but its been too random. so i'm hoping the site will bring some badly needed discipline to my writing.
I love this short story. Like all the other people have said, do write more stories. you are good.
one suggestion, if i may...before you begin describing your date with mel gibson, you wrote "I dreamt that i was on a sailboat..." well, so all along i knew it was a dream...may be if you take those words out, the reader would read on thinking that that's what really happen and then in the end realise it was all a dream..might add a punch.
though the writer always knows more about the piece than anybody else.so, if you have your reason for wording it like that then ignore the suggestion..the one about changing this little thing and not the one about writing more stories
take care

Sue, Was it a dream?
Where did that rose and ticket stub come from?
When I saw the contest that said what if... I had to look!!!
It turned out to be if you could spend the day with the actor or actress of your dreams and they wanted a short story. I had just watched Mel the night before in one of the Lethal Weapon movies. God, that guy makes my toes curl.
This is what ended up coming out of me for it. I didn't win the contest and I didn't care, I was happy to get the visions I had from my own little fantasy. LOL
Thank you so much for the applause and the lovely words you gave to me. I have thought about doing another short story, right now I am in the middle of a poetry course on this site and it is taking up a lot of time. We just got an IM today with the last 5 assignments and they are due by April 1st
I hope I can get them completed. Best of luck with your midterms and don't get overworked either. I know you're young and think that you're invincible right now.
Don't want to burn out early though.
I am so happy right now that you enjoyed this. That is an inspiration in itself to me. Love and blessings for you and Brandon, be good to each other, now and always.

love it, love, love it!!!!!!more!!!1
O my gosh......this is the most fantastic dream...I was kinda upset that u woke up but then the rose next to you made me smile. If only we all could have a perfect date with the man of our dream...life would probably be utopia. I love the image you painted in my head with this story...lol..I saw my face instead of Danielle. I LOVE THIS story. You should consider writing storeis more often...your audience would love it....maybe dreams really do come tru.
love now and always

Jess,
Thank you so much my dear sweet daughter. Psssssssst, don't tell dad whatever you do. LOL
I thought that it would be good to have it end like that, it was supposed to be a fantasy and who better to fantasize about than that gorgeous creature whose picture is on this page. I also thought it would be a good idea to try a short story because all I had been writing was poetry. I am ecstatic that you enjoyed it so much. All I can say is, I wouldn't kick him out of my bed. LOL
Lots of love, Mom xoxoxoxo

WOW MOM! This was great! I had no idea you wrote short stories too! I LOVED the ending! Did it really happen???? Tell me! I think it did. Unless you sleptwalked to Les Miserables. Ha ha! Oooh, I love surprise endings. My favorite part was the incredible imagery you used when you described the eyes being liquid pools. I was like, damn, why didn't I think of that??? Impressive work mom.....I'm guessing you love Mel? Who doesn't?

Shancy, I thank you so much for this wonderful comment and applause. I messed up though, I was trying to enter it in a contest and it wouldn't take prewrites. So I went and copied it over to word before deleting it. I don't know what to do now so I am going to leave both entries in my home page. LOL

My Good GOD what special heaven created MEL?
This piece is just delightful. I too am a big fan if this hunky hunk. LOL. Wonderful story. Filled with emotion, thrills and just the right amount of suspense to keep me stationed and reading.

Mel Gibson is probably the one actor I would love to be in the same room with. My maid of honor (yrs ago) works for the academy awards and one day she had an encounter with him. He had his wife and all his kids with him. She had her son that day and he came over and talked to him and played around with him-she said he was so personable and down to earth. She wanted to say something but all she could do was smile and shake her head yes when he asked her something.
If you had to come up with a fantasy-you picked the perfect topic. Best wishes in the contest!!! aj -
Jan,
I don't want to delete the contest entry. I messed up and when I entered it the first time it didn't go into the contest for some reason. LOL
Thank you so much for the applause and the great comment. I know I used different names here in the story, but he is just so WOW!!!
I could watch him walk in and out of the room all day long. LOL
And as long as he walked back in at the end that would be cool.
Thank you for the inspiration your words show me. I have a big smile right now.
Love and blessings for you, today and always.

excellent
Why on earth would you want to delete such a delightfull story? This is excellent and deserves to be read by all. Well done I love it.
Hugs

I messed up when I entered this for the contest and somehow it didn't get in. It didn't allow prewrites so I copied it to word and deleted the poem. Before I could delete it I received an applause and comment so I have left both here. I'm not sure what else to do.
If anyone knows and can help me out that would be great.
Joyce
