Calamity struck and into the water the went3
The county would later be known as Bent.4
Arkansas River near the Purgatoire5
The latter to be nicknamed picketwire6
A town was born called Las Animas7
This town that was has since then passed.8
The people here are affected much9
By the souls that were lost10
In fact most of them are greatly touched11
There as another calamity at a greater cost12
That one was so great half the people were lost.13
The northern loop of the Santa Fe Trail14
You can still see the Court House 15
And even the Jail.16
Nearby is historic Boggsville17
The town of the first hanging18
Where the people had their will.19
Kit Carson once lived there20
Others passed through21
Perhaps some day22
