Have you ever gone fishing, with your mom? Most kids, when they think of fishing, they think of their dad. Not me.. I think of my mom, and all the funny stories she would tell. Would you like to hear one? 1
You would? Great! 2
Now, which one? Oh, I know! It's about turtles, and their.., oh, I will tell you in the story..3
The water was really clear that day, and we could see all the way to the bottom. Sitting at the end of the dock, we could see some fish swimming by, as we cast out our lines. The red and white bobbers were barely moving, the water was so calm. I saw what I thought was a branch, pop out of the water. I asked my mom if she saw it, and she said it was a turtle. As soon as it heard us, it ducked back under the water.4
A few minutes later, mom felt a tug on her pole, so she reeled in her line. But nothing was there, not even the bait! We laughed about her fish getting away, and she cast out again.5
Not to long after that, we saw another turtle pop up and look around. Again, it went back under the water. 6
Then I felt a tug on my fishing rod, and got all excited! I reeled as fast as I could, not wanting to lose my fish like mom had done. Imagine my surprise, when nothing was on my line either. 7
Mom started laughing, and I wanted to cry. I guess she saw I was upset, and put her arm around me.8
That's when she told me we must be fishing where the super-smart turtles live. I looked at her, and asked what she meant by that. 9
She sat back down, and baited my hook. I love that about my mom, she is the only girl who doesn't get grossed out by worm guts.10
As she was doing that, she said that maybe, the turtles, maybe they had super computers in their shells. And that the guy at the bait store sold us bobbers that had homing devices in them. I started laughing, as I thought of the heads we had seen, acting like radars. Mom thought maybe they must be math geniuses, with how fast they were stealing our bait, after coming up to 'hone in' on our rods.11
