The Hitchhiker (chapter 15)

I closed the car door1

and went back into the house.2

Missy stayed close behind me.3

I was starting to wonder what was going on.4

I pick up a complete stranger,5

give him a lift and he takes off6

without saying thank you or goodbye.7

I got the kids up for breakfast.8

Missy and I didn't talk about Tony.9

Cynthia: "So, did you have a good sleep last night you guys?"10

Robin: "Yes mom, I did."11

Bret: "Me too, mommy."12

Stephanie: "I didn't, I was waiting for you to come home."13

Cynthia: "I am so sorry I wasn't here to give you kids a hug and kiss goodnight."14

Bret: "It's okay mommy, I forgive you."15

After the kids finished their breakfast,16

I got them dressed and ready to go17

with their grandparents for the day.18

I was thinking after they left,19

about turning on the t.v.20

and catching up on the hit and run accident.21

Around 10:00, the kids grandparents showed up to get tehm.22

They didn't stay long ,23

so it's a good thing I already24

had things packed for the kids,25

before they showed up.26

Cynthia: "Bye guys, have a good day and be good for nanny and grampy."27

All three ran back into the house 28

to give me a hug and kiss goodbye.29

"Bye mom, we love you," all three of them said at the same time.30

After the car left the driveway,31

Missy and I headed for the livingroom32

and turned on the television.33

We sat down on the couch.34

Low and behold, they were talking about35

the hit and run.36

Missy: "Just in time."37

Cynthia: "Yes, now we can find out who the victim was."38

Television Announcer: "We have a picture of the victim."39

I dropped my cup on the floor40

and it shattered.41

It was a picture of Tony, the hitchhiker.42

Cynthia: "Oh my God, that's Tony."43

Missy: "Are you sure?"44

Cynthia: "Yes, I'm positive."45

Turns out, the lonely hitchhiker was a 46
