Falling Apart

‘Why is my mom crying? What did he do to her to make her like this?’ Angel just couldn’t figure out what was going on in her own home. Angel hadn’t seen her mom cry since the night her mom ran into her room after she was slapped and that was 6 or 7 years before this. Angel was only 12 at this point in time but her maturity was far greater than her age. Most of her friends were either in high school, were supposed to be in high school, or if it was neither of the two they went to no one except her for advice on anything. Angel may have been one that was the advice giver, but what about her? Who could she go to for advice? No one. She didn’t really have a mother around to give her advice, she didn’t have a father-figure that was around to ask advice from, and her friends didn’t know what was happening to her. Her friends were the kind of kids that you see acting all depressed about the silliest most minuscule thing, what advice could they give her? They had never experienced pain like she had. Suddenly her moms divorce became an issue to her as well, more than she expected.1

Angel suddenly found herself sitting at home alone a lot more often than before. She would ask her mom if she wanted to do anything even but to no avail, her mother always already had plans made to go on a date with some guy or to go drinking with her friends. There wasn’t any time for Angel to have a mother any more. Angel suddenly stopped caring about everything, it didn’t matter anyway, none of her achievements were noticed anyway.2

Angel took a walk one night in the rain. She just walked and walked in the rain so that her tears would not be visible. It was about midnight when she got back home from her walk only to catch hell from her so called mother.3

"Where the hell have you been!? Do you know what fucking time it is!?" her mother exclaimed in rage.4

"What the hell does it matter to you? It's not like you actually give a rat's ass about me..." she replied in a frustrated yet monotonic voice.5

"What the hell is that supposed to mean!?"6

"It means you have neglected me and have complete disregard to my emotions! What the hell else would it fucking mean!?" by now she was yelling at her out of rage. "You're never home anymore, you’re always out with your friends drinking and partying and living it up while I am always stuck sitting here in the damn house waiting for you to get home safely! You don’t ever have any fucking time for me even though you claim to love me so much, all you have time for when it comes to me is yelling and bitching about this and that! You don't even fucking see what you’re doing!"7

"Don't you dare fucking talk to me like that you ungrateful little bitch!", as she said this Angel felt her icy hand come across her face.8

She raised her hand and cupped her cheek as tears filled her eyes, "FUCK YOU! YOU FUCKING WHORE!!" Angel yelled as she ran off with tears in her eyes. She ran back out into the rain...she ran and ran until her legs could barely hold her up. With tears in her eyes she fell to her knees in the middle of the street, the rain hitting her face and tears streaming down her soft cheeks. Angel pleaded for her mother to see what she'd become. “Why god! Why are you doing this to me!? What have I done to deserve this!?" She slowly got up from her knees and as carefully as possible walked to her friend's house, she only lived a block from where she had collapsed.9

"Adilene! Please! Open up! I know you’re awake!" Angel yelled as she pounded on her door in a desperate attempt for someone's help. “Please open up!" she said with one last knock, tears still streaming from her eyes.10

"Angel?" she said in a confused and sleepy voice. When she saw her face, she was shocked to see her cry for not even she had seen Angel cry. "What's wrong?! What happened!"11

"Can I please come in? I can't stay at home...it's not safe for me there." She said as she tried to hold back her tears.12

She helped Angel slowly step in and sat her on the sofa. Angel sat there crying and crying and Adilene just held her to comfort her and help her calm down, once Angel was able to speak again she told her everything that was wrong. Angel told her about her mother and how she was being treated, she told her what her brother did to her, she told her how she was still upset about the divorce and she told her about anything else that was making her hurt.13

"That's why I can't be at home anymore...it's just not safe for me..." Angel said as tears still streamed from her eyes.14

Angel thanked god everyday for that girl having been put in her life. Without the help of Adilene, Angel probably wouldn’t have made it through the rough times she had to deal with at home. Everything was made worthwhile because Angel finally had someone she could talk to.15

In march the next year things only got worse for her.
