The Hitchhiker (chapter 14)

Radio Announcer: "There were a few drive by witnesses. The car was a dark color with the licence plate number R5L H2B. If anybody has seen this vehicle, please report it to the police as soon as possible."1

Missy: "I wonder if they have a picture of the victim on television?"2

Cynthia: "I hope so, the kids are going to their grandmother's today, so I think I'll wait to find out."3

Missy: "I feel the same way you do, trying to keep it hush hush, so the kids don't get scared."4

Radio Announcer.: "We'll give you more details throughout the day."5

Cynthia: "I'll turn this off now."6

I walked over to the counter7

and turned the radio off.8

It was coming onto breakfast time for the kids.9

I happened to look out the window.10

The car door was wide open.11

I went outside.12

There was no sign of Tony anywhere.13

Missy came out soon after.14

She had a surprised look on her face.15

Cynthia: "He's gone."16

Missy: "I wonder where he might have gone?"17

Cynthia: "I don't know, maybe he had decided to go home."18

Missy: "Does he live around here?"19

Cynthia: "He says he does."20

Missy: "Why would he take off without saying goodbye?"21

Cynthia: "He probably has a wife and kids he wanted to get home to."22

Missy: "You could be right."23
