The Hitchhiker (chapter 11)

I took my coffee into the livingroom1

and sat in the chair by the fireplace.2

I had a splitting headache.3

Missy, the babysitter, woke up.4

Missy: "Have you been awake all night?"5

Cynthia: "No, I got a few hours of sleep, the kids woke me up."6

Missy: "What time did you get in?"7

Cynthia: "A little after 3:30 this morning."8

Missy: "You must be tired."9

Cynthia: "Yeah, a little."10

I forgot all about Tony being11

sound asleep in the car.12

Cynthia: "I heard on the radio, that there was another hit and run last night."13

Missy: "Oh my God."14

Cynthia: "The person that got hit was killed by a drunk driver."15

Missy: "Another one?"16

Cynthia: "I'm afraid so."17

Missy got up, went to the kitchen18

and made herslef a cup of coffee.19

She came back into the livingroom20

and sat back down on the couch.21

Missy: "Was it anybody we know?"22

Cynthia: "I don't know."23

Missy: "Did you want me to turn the radio on?"24

Cynthia: "No, not yet, I don't want the kids to get scared."25

Missy: "I understand."26

I set my coffee on the table sitting beside me27

and put my head in my hands.28

Missy: "Are you okay?"29

Cynthia: "I have a whopper of a headache."30

Missy: "Did you want me to get something for you?"31

Cynthia: "Yes, if you don't mind."32
