He'd had sex before, but those were with sluts. No one meant more to him than Hope had. Although they've never discussed it out loud, Josh had begun to think about marriage with Hope. He wanted to fulfill her every dream, and make them into a reality. His own dreams included her being in his life, going to college with him, living together in the same dorm, moving on to live in a big house after having a lavish wedding. The only person he knows about these thoughts were his best friend, and his response was a laugh, and a statement Josh will never forget.2
"I think you're turning into the girl in your relationship." Josh remembered him saying.3
He parked the car near the front door and and got out. He had a bouquet of red and white roses hidden behind him. He began to walk quickly to the door, wanting the night to begin and end with him in bed with Hope. He placed his hand on the metal of the handle to the door. Just then he heard a loud sound behind him, something that sounded like a loud PLOP. 4
(What the hell was that?)5
He turned around and couldn't make out what it was, for the sun had set just minutes ago, and the autumn darkness began to take over the earth. He hesitantly walked away from the door, and closer towards the direction of where the sound had come from. As he got further away from the door, he started to see a shape which resembled a body. 6
(No.. I must be hallucinating, or something like that.)7
He dropped the roses and his hands involuntarily went to his mouth. Beads of sweat began to mingle with his hair and it began to stick to his forehead although the early snow had made it freezing outside. As he slowly walked a little bit closer to what he thought was a body, he saw his girlfriends pale face. 8
"Oh Dear God!" Josh screamed through horrified tears, tears of shock.9
He was now running, not walking, towards her body, and he collapsed to his knees right near her head. Josh placed his hands on her shoulders and began to shake her violently, hoping she would wake up.10
He knew that this wasn't a dream, but with his actions, he was hoping that HE would wake up. He was hoping that this was all just a dream.11
Josh moved his hands to Hope's face and moved the thick strands of hair out of her face, out of her cold glaring eyes. Her face was freezing, her entire body began to turn pale. 12
(No, No, No!) Josh continued to scream inside his own head.13
He brought himself to speak, his lips quivered and his hands shaked as he tried to grab Hope's body tightly against his. When he brought her body close to him, he saw her wrists. A look of confusion appeared on his face, and that look quickly turned to guilt.14
"No! Hope, you didn't! You didn't do this! Whyyyy?!" He screamed, dropping her head into his lap as he raised his arms into the air and tilted his head back, screaming up at the gray clouds swimming in the dark starless sky.15
(She did it because you pressured her. You pressured her into having sex with you.)16
"No, No! I didn't!" Joshua screamed at his conscious. "You didn't do this because of me!!" He began to gasp. "Did you?!"17
The tears that continued to fall down his face from his pain-stricken eyes began to freeze onto his face. His quiet tears began to turn into sobs. He took off his suit jacket and placed it over Hope's body. Josh placed Hope's face in between his trembling hands. She looked so peaceful, so at rest. He cried and held her cold dead body closer to his own, trying to warm her up, praying that warmth would bring her back to life. 18
He opened his eyes and Hope's long smooth legs came into his vision. They were sparkling with the snow which had gotten on her. 19
"Why did you jump Hope?" The question intended towards himself and not towards his dead girlfriend. 20
(I wanted to marry you...)21
Although she was dead, he still couldn't bring himself to telling her that he had dreams and plans for them together. He grabbed the bottom of Hope's dress and tried to pull it down, trying to cover her legs from the cold. Josh's hand accidentally rubbed against his girlfriend for the first time in the year that they've been dating. He felt something odd, something that was out of place.22
Josh brought himself to lift up her dress and look in between Hope's legs.23
"I'm sorry, I know this wasn't the way you wanted it to be..." He whispered, tears continuing their path down his face. He choked on his own voice due to the lump he felt in his throat, the lump that made him want to start bawling while he shakes Hope's body.24
He reached in and pulled something out, something that felt rough.25
(What in the living hell is that?!) He thought.26
He pulled out the piece of paper and began to unroll it. Josh was feeling confused, and didn't know what he would find written on the note. He didn't know if that note was intended for him or not. Just then he heard a noise behind him. He looked at the bushes, but he didn't see anyone or anything. He closed his eyes and cried, Hope's blood staining his suit. He placed his hand on her head and quickly took it away. He saw blood, Hope's blood, cover his hand.27
With his bloody, shaky hands, Joshua began to read the note, quickly the first time, but slowed down the second time. His confused and questions weren't answered. What could possibly be under the bed? Why was the note stuck in his girlfriend? Had she even stuck it in there herself? Josh had so many questions, and no answers.28
Josh got up and wanted to see what the note was talking about. He relentlessly left his girlfriends dead body lying in the cold, blood-stained snow.29
He ran up the stairs and rushed to Hope's apartment. He found the door open, no need to break in... as if someone had done it before him. Josh stepped into the apartment and felt a chill envelop his entire body. After looking around the living area and kitchen, Josh found no one and felt a bit safer. He began to wonder if his girlfriend actually killed herself. If she had, he never knew she had been suicidal.30
He ran up the stairs to the one bedroom and bathroom. Josh entered Hopes bedroom, just as he was suppose to that night, except he wasn't going to get lucky. He wasn't going to score. He wasn't going to pop the question. Josh noticed the mirror and read the same message once again. 31
A relentless sigh came out of Josh's trembling lips. He began to get nervous as his hands became numb. He knelt on his knees and lifted up the bed skirt to look under the bed. Underneath the bed was a box, a black one, with a note on top of it. Josh reached his arm underneath the bed and pulled out the box quickly. He took in a deep breath before he unfolded the note and read it.32
"Sex toys..." Josh read aloud. "What the hell does that mean?"33
Josh opened the box and screamed. He quickly got to his knees and the box fell out of his lap, the contents of the little black box covering the white carpet. The carpet was beginning to get a stain, a red stain, a blood stain. Josh's hands shot to his nose and mouth. The smell was horrid, as horrid as the image of the severed penis and pair of breasts laying on the floor. 34
He saw a note in the box and was hesitant to grab it, but he felt he had to. He reached in quickly and picked it up, jumping back quickly. Josh was walking backwards towards the door as he unfolded the third letter that night. What he read this time was something he'd never thought would scare him so much. 35
(You're Next!)36
Josh read in his head, then read it out loud, as if to make sure this wasn't a dream. 37
"No.. No! I'm not! I'm not you mother shittin' fucker!" He screamed down the stairs of the apartment.38
Josh ran down the stairs and outside into the hall. He ran out of the apartment building screaming his lungs out. He began to run out of breath as soon as he got outside. Josh looked behind him to see if someone was there. He felt something deep inside him, a bad feeling. While he was turned away, he accidentally tripped over his girlfriends' dead body. 39
He fell to the ground on his knees, his palms sinking into the wet, melting snow. He began to vomit uncontrollably. Just as he had regained control of himself, he felt a looming figure overtake his collapsed body. Josh felt a gloved hand go over his mouth and it began to close off any oxygen which could enter through his nose as well. He started to feel lightheaded as he tried to give up a fight, tried to struggle to get out of the unknown persons' grasp. He was about to lose consciousness, when he felt it. 40
The freezing steel. It suddenly made him regain all consciousness as he felt it. He felt a hollow circle of cold steel press against his throbbing temple. He cried hard, and tried harder to escape, but it was too late. The shot was fired, right through his head. 41
Josh's blood began to squirt through the man-made hole in his head. The sound of the trigger being pulled, the sound of death, was the last thing Josh heard. His blood splashed all over the white snow and over his girlfriends own puddle of blood. 42
The masked person placed the gun in Josh's cold, lifeless hands, after he had fallen to the floor near his murdered girlfriend. He took a look once more at what he had done, how well he'd done it, and began to laugh, for he was pleased, pleased at how this looked. Another suicide scenario accomplished. He began to walk away slowly in the cold, snow-filled autumn night.43
