Chapter 31

(The next day)2

“You guys, this is it, we’re gonna be out of here tomorrow!” Sammy said with anxiety.3

“I know. I can hardly believe it!” said Victoria.4

This was their first time that they would be this far away from the orphanage since that Thanksgiving trip they took to New York a year ago.5

“I’m sorry. Is there something that I’ve been missing?” said their training teacher Mr. Mallic.6

“Sorry Mr. Mallic” said the children in unison.7

“Alright” continued Mr. Mallic, “Now that we’ve taken care of that, let’s get on with training shall we? Ok, first up I’d like to see…” he looked down at his roll list to decide who would go first, “Front and center Shocker!”8

Shocker, also known as Brian, reluctantly climbed down from the bleachers into the middle of the floor where Mallic was standing. This was going to be amazing. As you may have guessed, Shockers power was the ability to control electricity. He was a returning student, so anyone who wasn’t new already knew how amazing he was.9

“Choose your opponent!”10

“Ok… I chose… You”11

He pointed at one of the new kids not knowing what he was getting himself into. He was scrawny and had no muscles to back his self up. Being new, he jumped right up and ran into the center of the floor.12

“What’s your power son?” asked Mr. Mallic.13

“Well” said the new kid, and then he whispered the rest into his ear.14

“Alright Rocky!” said Mallic just loud enough for the new kid to hear. Mr. Mallic moved away from the center of the floor over to where the students were sitting in the bleachers, stood in front of them, and announced, “Alright! We have Shocker, V.S. Rocky!”15

The students cheered because they knew that this was going to be good.16

“This is going to be good!” exclaimed Sammy.17

“Ready?”18

The arena closed with a thick glass wall in front of the bleachers so that anything that may have gone wrong wouldn’t affect the students sitting there.19

“Set?”20

The glass turned black on the inside so that the contestants couldn’t see or hear what the other students were saying.21

“Go!”22

The fight began. Shocker started to charge a jolt of electricity in between his two hands as Rocky flexed his scrawny, little muscles. Shocker let off the jolt of electricity directly at Rocky as Rocky grew. Rocky grew at least two feet in height and had an enormous body to back him up! He was solid stone. The jolt of electricity bounced off Rocky, and directly at the bleachers. Luckily the glass was in front of the students or they would have all been fried. Rocky took a few wretched, evil looking steps toward Shocker as Shocker panicked. Shocker jumped out of the way as Rocky pounced in his general direction shaking the entire floor making Shocker too wobbly to perceive where he was. Shocker, despite his state, noticed some electrical wire hanging from the ceiling. Rocky jumped as high as he could and the entire ground shook again, this time more intensely than the last. Shocker was too off balance to do anything. Rocky took a few more steps toward Shocker as he trembled. Shocker, trying to maintain him self, took his hands, pointed them at the ceiling, and broke the electrical wire from it. Shocker suspended the wire in the air and wrapped it tightly around Rocky. He fell to the ground with a great thud directly in front of Shocker who was on his hands and knees breathing like a jogger on a hot summer day with sweat dripping from his face from the nerve that it took to bring down something that was two feet taller than you and about 100 times denser. As Rocky struggled, Shocker spit on him and stood on top of him with a look that said “hard work” on his face to show his victory.23

“Match!” yelled Mr. Mallic as the ring returned to its normal, public school gym like state.24

The students were awe struck with the talent of Shocker. They all knew he was clever, but not this clever. They hadn’t suspected at the beginning of the fight that he would have won.25

“Alright!” said Mallic. “With some work kid, you’ll be good! Remind me of your name?”26

“Sidra” said the new kid “Alex Sidra”27

“Ok…” He said as he wrote the name on his clip board, “Next… How about you Sammy?”28

“Alright! Here we go!”29

The students all yelled their brains out as Sammy went into the center of the ring. He was blowing kisses and bowing as he made his way slowly to the middle.30

“Your opponent will be Victoria.” said Mallic.31

“What!” Sammy stoped dead in his tracks.32

“To be able to fight your enemies, you must be able to overcome your friends.” said Mallic. The two knew what he meant, but still didn’t want to fight each other. They didn’t know what to do. Victoria made her way into the center of the ring despite her feelings.33

“Ready?”34

The arena began to enclose the contestants.35

“Set?”36

The glass turned pitch black.37

“Go!” yelled Mallic.38

The fight began. Sammy liquefied himself instantly as Victoria turned into a wood pecker with purple feathers. Victoria fluttered to the top of the room as Sammy glided smoothly and quickly along the gym’s floor to the edge of the arena. Victoria took a dive bomb directly at Sammy as he de liquefied him self and reached out to grab her. He was too slow, for then Victoria jetted backward and turned into a heart stopping lion with a purple mane. Sammy was lost as to what he was going to do. They circled each other for a while, staring into each others eyes, as Sammy thought. Victoria leapt at Sammy as he jumped and liquefied himself. He then used a technique that he had learned last year during training. He could liquefy himself, jump off of himself, liquefy himself, jump off himself, and so on. He used this technique until he could touch the ceiling. He then pushed off the ceiling with his feet and aimed at Victoria who was too afraid to do anything. He took her down with a vicious tackle and kept her down. Hard as she did try, Victoria was in too much pain to change into any other animal. She changed back into her plain old human self as Sammy stood to show his victory.39

“Match!” yelled Mallic. The arena changed back with a ballet of retracting glass.40

The two friends were too ashamed to say anything to each other or to any one else.41

“Victoria!” Mallic called her over, “I’m very surprised at you. You had the fight won. I don’t ever want to see you hold back like that again do you hear?”42

He wasn’t saying it in a mad tone of voice, but it was enough to make Victoria upset.43

“Yesir” she said. But what she was thinking was, “That’s good for you jerk-off, because you won’t be seeing any more of me for a while.”44

“Alright,” Mallic continued with his class, “Next we have Phillip V.S. Alice!” 45

Reluctantly, the two made their way into the middle of the ring. They knew that he was doing this to make them stronger, because he knew that they were the ones who were assigned to save the school and mutants all over the world, but they still had no desire to fight each other.46

“Ready?”47

The glass came out again.48

“Set?”49

It blackened.50

“Go!”51

It started. Alice jumped high into the air as Phillip began to fire up. Alice continued to rise as her eyes turned pure white. She then turned the room into a water world in Phillips mind. Phillip jetted at her as fast as he could to try and strike her down, but Alice disappeared, and reappeared directly in back of Phillip. He tried to ignore the water that surrounded him, but the mental image was so real to him that he lost the capability of flame. He fell to the ground and breathed hard. Alice was above him and slowly descending. She made him think of darkness. Phillips entire mind was enclosed by darkness. Spirits of the dead rose, and Satan seemed to be standing next to him. Phillip tried to flame on. He couldn’t get as much as a spark. Alice changed herself into one of the demons in Phillips mind. She walked over to him slowly and raised her arms as she prepared to hit Phillips neck to make him unable to fight. Phillip was fatigued but he let out a huge yell that could be heard through the glass and he ignited. His flame almost engulfed Alice, but at that very second she let her arms come collapsing down directly on the middle of his neck, making him collapse. Alice also collapsed from fatigue and they both stayed.52

“Match!” yelled Mallic as the ring returned to its normal state.53

The students couldn’t breathe, and much less say anything. Every student in the room had their mouths wide open with awe. The two in the center of the ring couldn’t move, for Alice was scorched and Phillip was hallucinating and almost paralyzed.54

“Zip! Get over here and get these two to the nurse!” he said trying to blow it all off.55

“Yesir!” said Zip, and with lightning speed (literaly) picked the two up, and carried them out of the room. None of the students said a word, and neither did Mr. Mallic. He was ashamed of himself for putting two of the most powerful students against each other. He covered his face to hide it from the students.56

“Alright!” The rest of today is free. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said to get himself out of it. 57
