We need to boycott ERSB and PEGI

There are many other companies of the same likeness as ERSB and PEGI, but these two are the main ones, in Britian we have the British Classifaction Film Board, but I'm getting obscure enough, by only going with European ones, I don't want to confuse you Americans so much that you're gnawing your lips, to get the Ulcer of Frustration1

Here in Britain, PEGI has recently been made THE LAW. As in, it's illegal for us to buy 16's now, when they're rated by PEGI, when a few months ago, we could, so long as it was rated by PEGI.2

I can sort of understand why they would want to do this, since most companies would switch to PEGI, to get more people to buy their games, but seriously, we'll just ask some adult, to buy the game for us, or go in with our parents... I think going in with your parents, would make the whole scene feel less... pedophilic...3

But still, people want to buy games, so let them buy fucking games...4

I've covered much of this in a latter rant (Violence in the media? Bullshit) but I checked how many countries in Europe, that PEGI is lawful in... four.5

Finland6

Netherlands7

Poland8

Britain9

That's it...10

Not even France is on that list! Germany doesn't even use PEGI!11

The thing is, this is just making people more afraid of video games, and Jack Thompson is one of those people.12

Little background check on Jack Thompson, for you:13

(Copied from Wikipedia) John Bruce "Jack" Thompson (born July 25, 1951) is an American activist and disbarred attorney, based in Coral Gables, Florida. Thompson is known for his role as an anti-video-game activist, particularly against violence and/or sex in video games.14

(My version of the above paragraph) John Bruce "Jack" Thompson (born July 25, 1951) is an American activist, leading to the question, who isn't, in that country? ...and disbarred attorney, meaning he was barred at some point... who decided to disbarr him!? Wankers... ,based in Coral Gables, Florida, which is actually where most video game companies are based IRONY ALERT!! Thompson is known for his role as a complete douche, who'll do everything he can to make life a misery for everyone else.15

I sometimes wonder, why would he want to ban ALL video games!? PLAY SUPER MARIO BROS. YOU OLD FUCK!16

No one cares, and if he gets video games banned in America, that means I can gloat over here, in Britain, where we, although have stricter game ratings, are happy in the knowledge, that stricter game ratings, means that games won't be banned anytime soon17

My favourite 'video game contreversy' story, is this one:18

On October 13 2008, 15-year-old Brandon Crisp from Barrie, Ontario, Canada ran away from home on his mountain bike after his parents confiscated his Xbox 360 following an argument regarding the time he spent playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. His body, which had fallen from a tree, was found on November 5, 2008 by some local hunters.19

(That was Wikipedia again... bite me)20

Right, so he spent a lot of time on Modern Warfare, so he got his 360 confiscated, and he decided to run away from home?21

I get the feeling there was a lot more going on here than just a confiscation of an Xbox...22

Seriously!? I think he's smart enough to know that they can't keep the 360 out of his claws forever, they were going to let him back on someday!23

And what about the hunters!? They've had some contreversy!24

Why don't we blamce them! After all, they were local! It could have all been their fault! Maybe he was training to be one, via first-person shooters!25

Do you see how bullshit that arguement is!?26

Seriously, we need to relax about these things, or by the end of the century, we won't have TV, movies, books, music or games...27

Or we'd have blown ourselves up...28

Whichever comes first, really...

I liked this, well presented and how you took his argument and made it look stupid was excellent.

  • Blowing yourself up will come first. For sure.

Well, errr... try and... savour the words? Yeaaahhh...

          • But why should I "savour" the words, when their meaning is already universal: the world is fucked up? Hmm?

No, it means that ERSB is fucked up!

              • No no no, the world. We keep spending this money and wasting trees like magic will happen and poof some more.

Well, we could get some seeds, so the trees won't magically appear, but

                  POOF! Some more...

                  • No--because people are too lazy to get their asses to plant the damn seeds and water them. BAM.

Not to say we can't though

                      • What's the point of being able to do something if you don't act on it? Then it's just pointless, and you're not only wasting the environment, but also the seeds. Mhmm.

We've probably got some 'seed storage' somewhere, and most companies now have a policy

"For every tree we cut down, we'll plant two more"

                          POINT GOES TO ME!

                          • What good is a good policy when most companies are corrupt? Which goes back to--the world is fucked up. Mhmm, you lose that point.

A company doesn't go against their own policies... granted, they try to find away round them, but you can't really sneak past something as blunt and simple as that...
